@RugbyWiseman76 - great report, sounds like it was a great game marred by an ugly end. So, further to my previous comments, IF a KWS player started the whole melee by striking somebody it's time for KWS Headmaster and MIC to take action. He should be suspended for the remainder of the season and if that he means he has played his last game for the school then so be it. Such behaviour can not be tolerated in the game of rugby, especially at schoolboy level. Furthermore, if KWS do not take action then the ISA should step in and ask for a 'please explain'. The whole of the ISA community will be watching on to see what happens this week.

Anyway, back to rugby, Gregs are building for a grand finish and given the events of the weekend I predict a Gregs victory over KWS this week. Auggies play Oaks with the winner taking home the ISA title i believe (can somebody confirm?). Auggies will be smarting from the draw with Gregs and will produce a spirited win. Pats and Stannies (not sure where being played) .... hmmm .... let's call it a draw.

It's been a great season with the results much more even than in the past. Let's hope this trend continues. However Auggies look to have a powerful 15s and 16s and should be the faves for '17.

Any thoughts on what will happen in '17 with the Gregs/Pius situation? Both schools appear to have performed well in their respective competitions.

As with the other schoolboy threads, let's not name names of misbehaving schoolboys.

If you feel strongly about the issue, then raise it with the one of the Heads of School, or Master in Charge of Sport for it to be dealt with. They are best placed to deal with the issue. It is their job.

No more comment or allegations regarding the behaviour between KWS & SSC as they will be deleted.

A friend of mine made me aware of this ISA schoolboy rugby blog. As a keen rugby follower and having gone to an ISA school it makes for fascinating reading.

Looks like a number of the colleges/schools have improved their rugby performances in recent times. However what's happened to St Patrick's Strathfield? A father of a son at St Patrick's told me that most, if not all, got beaten by St Gregs/St Pius X (can somebody explain that set up for me? I thought St Gregs were an MCS school?). And having looked at the ISA website looks like most of the St Patrick's teams are in the bottom half of their respective competitions. Perhaps just at the bottom end of a cycle? Perhaps concentrating on other things? @schoolboyinsider seems to keep abreast of their results - perhaps he/she (I never assume all rugby followers are male) can shed some light?

Sorry for the delay in reply, been busy with organising dates and accommodation for the Australian Schoolboys tour later this year. Busy, but highly interesting stuff. As for St Pats, the school is slowly turning to be infected with soccer boys, and rugby, unfortunately, is on a steady decrease. For years this year's 1st XV was talked about as possible contenders for the throne. Their form in 13s - 16s was outstanding, winning the comp in 15s and 16s. Poor fitness and team structures, along with a large amount of injuries, has resulted in poor performances this year. The even worse news is, the rugby is on a steep declining, with next year's 1st XV age group, only being able to field one and a half teams when they were in the 16s. Many questions unanswered, but the main that is going around the lunchroom at break time, Do St Pats play division 1 or 2 next year? Hopefully not, but unfortunately it is out of my power, and it may come down to this Saturday's grudge match between Pats and Stannies at the home of Sydney Rugby, Breen Oval. Also the last home game for all the Year 12 boys, and with the Ol' Faithful Stannies supporters flocking to Sydney for the game, I'll be dissapointed with any less than a 400 strong crowd.

Whilst Stannies are traditionally Kinross rivals, SPC v SSC games are some of my favorites to watch all year. Both teams bring hard hitting attacking rugby to the table and rank among my favorites all year. Very excited.

Schoolboyinsider - you seem to know your stuff about St Patrick's. Div 2 - who plays in that comp? It seems that St Gregs/St Pius X play in Div 1 on a "shared" basis so Div 2 include Chev (they were strong back in my day), All Saints, Redlands etc?

Watched KWS v SSC, didn't see enough of the incident to comment. However I did watch the best game of schoolboy rugby I have seen in a long time. No.9 for both sides played extremely well Manson and Kerrison as well as No.10 for both also. with Kerrison kicking the goal from 40 for the win. Great sportsmanship from what I saw and also great school spirit from both Stannies and Kinross. No.12 for Stannies Veitch played another great game as did the Smiths (who I believe may be brothers).
It was a hotly contested game and plenty of emotion was evident both ways, but kudos to KWS who were really in the game right to the bell. Great to see a schoolboy rivalry contested in such fashion. Also a shame that a shadow is being cast over what was indeed a great game of rugby.

Also wondering about the Waratah Shield this year? I haven't heard much but I believe it is still being played, is there a thread for its progress?

All Saints College Bathurst pulled off a remarkable win on Saturday against former ISA Div1 school St Andrews Cathedral School. Good to see Bathurst Schoolboy Rugby on the rise!

I was told the ASC captain of rugby of a year or 2 back made the country cockatoos, anyone able to confirm? and where is he at now?

MEDIA STATEMENT FROM THE HEAD OF COLLEGE

Last Saturday the College hosted a Rugby fixture against Scots School and Kinross Wolaroi School.

Sixteen games were played. Overall the students competed in a spirit of fine sportsmanship. One junior Stannies student was issued a red card for a Rugby Law infringement and the College is responding to that matter following established procedures.

The 1st XV fixture was a fine game of competitive schoolboy Rugby where the score line changed throughout the whole game and where the final result was determined in the dying moments. Both teams and their coaches are to be congratulated for the high standard of play and sportsmanship.

Unfortunately, at the end of the game, a number of Stannies Old Boys ran onto the Number 1 Oval and engaged in inappropriate behaviour towards some Kinross players. The College responded immediately.

Stannies staff ensured that Police were notified and that the alleged Old Boys were identified. Police attended the College.

Head of College, Dr Anne Wenham has responded to this matter as follows:
On behalf of the College community, I formally apologise to the Kinross Wolaroi community for the behaviour by a minority number of Old Boys who were present at the 1st XV game on Saturday. The behaviour of a few at the end of the game was unacceptable. I apologise particularly to the players, their families, Kinross coaches, Principal and staff as well as Kinross students and supporters who witnessed this behaviour.

The College took reasonable steps to ensure a safe environment for Rugby on Saturday. The College was informed that a number of Old Boys groups had organised reunions for the weekend and that they would be attending Rugby on Saturday. As such, all entrances had No Alcohol Signage and all programs contained this message. In addition, there were security guards on site to ensure that this was enforced throughout the afternoon.

The actions of a few Old Boys have impacted significantly on a large number of people. Apart from the Kinross Wolaroi community, the Stannies community is extremely disappointed with what took place. We are proud of who we are and what we stand for. Unfortunately, the actions of a few who should know better, have damaged our fine reputation. The College will be making its own response to those responsible for Saturday’s incident following a fine game of top level schoolboy rugby.

Great post Bulldog
Both schools have responded as reported in the Central Western Daily (Orange newspaper) http://www.centralwesterndaily.com.au/story/4081514/kinross-players-caught-in-brawl/?cs=103

Kinross Wolaroi School Acting Principal is quoted in the article

“The KWS community can be very proud of the behaviour of our students and staff under very difficult and trying circumstances,” Mr McLean said.

“Our students all behaved with dignity and were attentive to the directions of their coaches and senior KWS staff who moved quickly to remove them from the area,”

I think that it is a big call to be even suggesting St Pats go down to div 2 as I have said many times they're not far off it this year. St Pats have a minimum of 6 1st players returning next year, along with a handful of talented u16s. Shouldn't be all doom and gloom next year if they work hard in the off season.

I've been bitting my tongue for a while now, but the thought of Pat's being dropped to Div 2 (and Pius) ahead of Greg's, Kinross and Augustine's (despite their dominance) disgusts me.

Pat's are a FULL MEMBER of the ISA, unlike Greg's, Kinross and Augustine's. I am not saying Augustine's and Kinross shouldn't be in the ISA (they strengthen the competition and I am much for their continual participation because from the outside looking in they appear to take ISA rugby seriously), but what grinds my gears is the demotion of Pius, as they are also FULL MEMBERS of the ISA competing in all sports across the ISA!

Why should Pius be demoted to 2nd XV when Greg's are only partial members of the ISA... common sense must prevail! Pius should get priority as they have more say/impact/influence/participation across the entire ISA. Plus, I continue to see the same trend every season (and it has become even clearer this season with home & away rounds), that is Greg's A team turns up at home, but as soon as they step foot out of Campbelltown it is as though they reveal a different realm of players. This isn't just the chase in the 1st XV, all the age groups appear to be the same (do Greg's treat playing rugby as a joke??)

All being said, Pat's (and Pius) should always be Div 1 schools despite the strength of their respective rugby fraternities (it always goes in cycles).

If the ISA wants to have a 6 team, home & away competition, surely common sense prevails in 2017 and the FULL MEMBERS gain priority and if someone has to go, then sorry Greg's have my vote to get the boot (they're an MCS school at heart... why take 1st XV rugby from Pius who are an ISA school through and through???)

@pilfer 80 - I was not aware that St Gregory's College remained in the MCS. I assumed they had changed to ISA given their involvment in ISA Rugby (and i assumed other sports as well). If they remain in the MCS how can they play in the ISA? It seems a little silly to even have to ask the question. This makes no sense to me. If nothing else doesn't it put too much burden on the boys playing league on a weekday (i think thursday) and then rugby just two days later?

St Pius X would feel a little agrieved would they not?

Nothing against St Gregory's -- it is a fantastic school from all accounts (I know a few old boys and they are great fellas), just not sure how they can be both MCS and ISA.

By the sounds of it this arrangment is new this year? Will this be continueing in the 2017 season?

Anyhow, good luck to all players in the week ahead - sounds like there will be some good games to watch.

You sure the Pius kids would be voting to get bashed up every week next year in Div 1?
What's wrong with them playing in a comp where they are competitive?
I don't give two shits about who is a founding member,or full member.
The idea of the association is to provide competition for the Schools.
Competition means competitive teams.
The 2 divisions should ensure every School can find its level.
