I'm pretty sure you'll find that it's inversely proportional to how far from downtown Onehunga one was born:
EDIT: BThorn b Mosgiel, 1,570km from Onehunga = really, really hard bastard.
CFarrell b Auckland: unsure of suburb but has to be >50km from Onehunga, not so much

A mate of mine who is from Yorkshire, but been here 20 years, would agree with you, and reckons we are generally a bit softer and lazier, and he reckons it is mainly because it is too nice (weather-wise) and easy, to keep people more hard-edged and motivated.

Funnily enough I was watching the SBS weather last night and saw Auckland was predicted to have a balmy 21 today.
The Blues results support your mate's theory - I wonder what the cutoff temperature is and how warm it is in Hamilton today..........

^^^^^^^^^^^ 20C after an overnight low of 6. Auckland's overnight low was 12C but that's to be expected given it's coastal not 50km inland.

^^^Rest assured all the Mexicans I know really do care about the Tahs; passionately! They really care that the Tahs get absolutely humiliated like last week on every single occasion by any and every opposition they face. They will even care so much as to hope they have a sh*t week on the training paddock and they get knots in their rope and strangle each other.

He'd have to sign with one prior to resigning from one. So you should be happy.
