NRC onwards and upwards

Ok I will have to struggle to find these squads - as for example their actual team websites (for 3 NSW teams) don't have them...this is like the competition it is hard to find when it starts, when it is on..sorry given in the fourth season would have thought they would have this better together and I know certain posters will get up in arms as involved but it is a shambles.a shambles I will support and go to games but gees they make it hard to attract other new followers..

One day they will get there shit together for this competition.

Pushing the Shute Shield schedule back doesn't help.........

But the squads are up in all the team threads..........

Also, only one of those teams seems to have a functioning website, and they did include their squad list on there.

They've all been posted on their social media pages and through the ARU website.

Slim I hear you but we got to stop having excuse for this competition....someone needs to sort this shit out...as yes no money to market it but FFS to not even less than a couple of days till competition starts to not have all teams listed on rugby.com site is pretty shite as how are anyone ever meant to know when this competition starts and is on....

I appreciate this site does a lot to promote it etc but this is a niche website and it really is after 4 seasons a shambles how they fail to use basic media to publicise this competition. As an example look at NRC section on foxsports who broadcast this competition....frigging shambles...

No Slim this is shit the way this competition is promoted - I mean FFS foxsports who broadcast this have only old NRC articles from 2016 last time I checked a day ago under their NRC section on foxsports.

It does not need you making excuses for the shit way this competition is promoted as FFS why is someone not getting Foxsports to promote it on their own website properly only days out from the competition.

I am tired of people making excuses for the shit way the ARU manages this competition as I thought they have someone overseeing it who could at least speak to foxsports and others to do the basics...

I did google searches and bugger all comes up for Sydney teams which mean made obscure and hard to find....my criticism is valid so lets not keep making excuses...

To my mind just reflects the lack of accountability in the ARU as last time I recalled there was someone who was responsible for oversight of NRC in the management/admin structure and this is basic shit they should be doing like ensuring key media and broadcast partners do there bit. But they do a shit job and keep their job because that is the way the ARU seems to work. Totally Farked....

Many seemingly from the one source, which is good - consolidate that function within the governing body - shared costs, cut costs.

But I think it's poor to be releasing information like that in image formats instead of text.

Why is this done? It makes no sense. Slow down the dissemination of info, or give a certain outlet preferred access? … It can't be. … Some sort of ill-conceived copyright thing? … Nah.

Should be the opposite approach … press releases. Pre-canned lists plus 30 words of spiel so that writers from any medium (even shoestring rugby blogs) don't have to do any work to tell the story. Get it out there.

It's another area the ARU needs to consolidate backroom functionality, get rid of each team website, run them under the ARU utilising the same licenses, server costs and IT staff the ARU do.

Rather then trying to run these dodgy sites on volunteer labour, just email through team lists, player profiles, photos etc to the ARU. Use the ARUs social media and marketing staff to publish it in a credible format.

Facebook prioritises images over text. Image based posts will appear higher in people's newsfeed than text based ones. Video would be even better.

I am stupendously excited for this competition - if only the Sydney clubs and teams could sort their shit out.

Have you seen the Brisbane city squad?!

Talakai, Ready, Vanzati
Douglas, Tui
Korczyk, ? , Gunn
Frisby, Cooper
Kerevi, Taefu
Kuridrani, Hunt, Laloifi

That's essentially a Reds quality side! And the best thing is - even if they lose, another Australian team wins!

I'm salivating at the very thought.

Yep. And genuine video and photos of players from all teams were taken on the day of the launch.

Include a photo.

Failing that, separate the logos from the text.

Rugby's internet presence is very very poor.

They seriously need to approach Telstra Media (afl.com/nrl.com) and have them operate their online media.

Whilst it would be good to have up to date websites, I think Social Media as the main platform for providing information and engaging with fans reflects the reality of that being the place where far more of the engagement takes place, particularly for a competition of this size.

It is quicker, easier and cheaper for the NRC sides/Super Rugby/ARU to work with and I would assume gets far more hits than any of the websites ever would.

Braveheart is right - don't fart around too much on your website when its such a moveable feast. Basic details like squads, coaches, and fixtures. Let social media do the rest.

Yeah, nah. Let's not forget we're taking shoestring budgets up against billion dollar national competitions with a FTA presence. And the fact that NRC is barely tolerated within the Sydney Premier Club scene.

If you want to look like an local amateur competition then sure, social media is the way to go. If you want to be professional competition then you run a website with all relevant information easy to access for the public, while maintaining various social media platforms to funnel traffic to the main site. It's literally what every professional organisation does.

Gosh... Let's not forget you don't need a billion dollar budget to make a decent site. The AIHL runs on next to nothing at all and their set up is more user friendly than anything the rugby orgs have put together.

It would not take much effort to improve the basic marketing using existing resources - get the ARU person who looks after the nrc to do their bloody job - like ensuring key media partners like fox sports doing the basics. There are a host of low cost options to better improve release of information and save a lot of other parties time and money. To me it looks like there has been no central oversight of this so not sure what the ARU person who oversees the nrc per the structure I saw some months ago does as this is basics they should be managing.
