Where to for Super Rugby?

I love rugby. I continue to support the game I love.

I hate the ARU and in the best interest of rugby, they should be killed off and a new administrative body be built to fill the void of rugby administration.

The Force have suffered the injustice but this has been a long running issue in Australian Rugby. The East Coast unions have also come upon hard times due to the stranglehold of the old boys mentality.

Plenty of talk about business among the rugby community but these fluffybunny's couldn't competently run a chook raffle for fucks sake.

Self entitled fucking spivs that think they have some higher ownership over the game than the rugby community in its entirety.

Rugby needs to get seriously professional. Not have its cake and eat it too.

That is the way it should be. And it is a tragic day when I feel it necessary to say, "it is not, however, the way that it is."

Seriously though, what is "the way that it is" then?

I just don't see how the people that lose out the most by fans turning their back on the game are firstly the players and secondly the fans.

The people who lose out least are those that people most want to punish.

It's not about punishment it's about instigating change. How do we change if we just nod our heads, eat shit and continue spending our money going to the game?

Have a whinge on an online forum?

The current soup model as we know it will be dead before the next media agreement is up for re-negotiation.

I see no point in dragging out support for this rotting corpse. I will continue to support the NRC, the national team, and in particular, grass roots rugby in the meantime.

If you stop attending games, who do you think gets hurt first and worst?

If professional rugby in Australia collapses, who do you think fills the power void? Professional rugby handed unprecedented power to the players that never existed in the amateur days.

If it all collapses, I guarantee those that will be the most powerful again are the people everyone dislikes the most. It will be the old boys/leather elbow patch brigade through and through.

So your view is we can either:

a) eat shit and support the team because there are still a few relatively innocent players who will be affected if we stop watching or;
b) eat even more shit

I really don't think it's impossible for an effective administration to be set up to oversee what must bet he inevitable switch to a functional competition, either trans-tas or Aus only.

Hell, maybe twiggy can do it.

I hope the Rebels stay the fuck out of that quagmire and let the other vultures in. Bad vibes all round man.

Come on, don't be so melodramatic. Realistically, the Rebels need the Force players and their coach, or we will be dead in the water within 2 years.

And lets not be coy here, at this stage, the Plan B spoken of by many Force players is the Rebels.

I would go so far as to say that the Force in death have saved the Rebels via vital organ donations.

Maybe you are right. I dunno how this is going to turn out. You've got a hard sell though, a lot of people from all over Aus are going to be feeling pretty disenfranchised. And that was a pre-existing trend, before this nightmare.

Love a good silver lining post :)

Super rugby will go on next year and here's hoping for a more competitive season from all involved. Yes the conference system is dire, but a 15 team comp is a step in the right direction.

Sorry, but did I miss a post in this conversation?

The powerful old boys/leather elbow patch brigade you refer to
;are they the same blokes that have struggled to keep club level SS afloat (and have done fortunately) over the last few years or the ones that have just fatally wounded the Super Rugby comp and in doing so wounded Rugby in general and cut in to their income stream?

I think if (when) it collapses their wont be the power void you envisage and it wont be resurrected via the traditional script.

plan B,daz, could be the new comp and there may well be very few Force players moving anywhere

Agree, that well may be the case, which makes the last 178 days pretty much a waste of time.

Having said that, I would not expect too many players to commit to a minor-league comp that will generate little revenue to pay players, and most will still want Super Rugby/Test access.

the right to terminate the licence decision stands.

As per the alliance agreement.

The Court has said pursuant to the agreement the ARU can cut the force. RWA have said they will appeal this but I can imagine that the legal eagles in the west can come up with plenty of (new) reasons at both law and equity why they shouldn't be cut.

The process was unfair or unconscionable. Procedural fairness or natural justice not followed..the vibe etc. etc.

Force are fighting for their survival why wouldn't they take out the shotgun and spray the buckshot everywhere in the hope of hitting the ARU.

In the meantime they look like they are trying to get plan D of the ground with this rival comp which should be interesting, which although maybe somewhat fanciful might be enough to turn the killshot back on the ARU considering what everyone expects that they are in a parlous state and drowning in red ink.

What an unmitigated disaster...The ARU in their rank stupidity are probably chalking this up as a win.

I'm missing a bit of what you meant by your post.

The point I am making is that a lot of people seem to have a belief that if the ARU and the state unions go broke it will be fantastic because it will see the end of the top end of town controlling rugby.

I tend to think it will be opposite and it will go back to how it was in amateur days where even more control was vested in the traditional powers in NSW and Qld.

You are deceptively negative BH. Our failed launch into professionalism will fail even worse the second time around?
