    Aussie Player Exodus

Whilst it would be an interesting counterfactual to speculate where RA would be at without the previous Vic Gov deal and the reduction in rights if the Rebels had been shut down earlier like during Covid, my point was more that we can’t afford players in the current market. Market value is what...

    Aussie Player Exodus

NZR cash is about three Sualii's currently I believe ($5m). Super Rugby distribution is $3.9m (just under two player option contract extension Sualii's) down from $5.5m pre-pandemic. Not hard to see why players are going overseas chasing their true value. Not like much good will was shown...

    RWC 2027 Australia

The election is in 2026. The timing of announcing venues, and when the tournament will be held means the election is in clear air from a rugby perspective. You also massively over-estimate how much people will care. As soon as the tennis ends AFL pre-season starts. This is not getting any press.

    RWC 2027 Australia

I'm no fan of our state government but to be fair they are building sporting venues where the comm games were to go, are building a rugby centre of excellence and have paid RA plenty of money for tests over the years, including as part of the previous Rebels bail out. They are now doing exactly...

    Aussie Player Exodus

Once the broadcast deal is done they have more flexibility - both on knowing their budget for players, but also in widening selection policy without it becoming a bargaining point.

    Aussie Player Exodus

There's also the issue that RA still don't know their budget post 2025 as they haven't got the broadcast rights finalised. It's not only about high expectations, it's also about deal length.

Is there an embargo period for RWC stadiums prior to the tournament like they have for soccer?

Phil Waugh's commentary on the new strategic plan from the Australian https://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/rugby-union/no-broadcast-deal-80-million-debt-and-wage-cuts-but-rugby-australia-plans-for-wallabies-to-go-no1/news-story/5f2f4b6017246dbae9307c5ec96de208 The general message seems to be...

These are the words of someone who has never tried to get a statutory parking reduction for a pub development.

Scotland v Wallabies at Murrayfield 12.40am Mon 25 Nov

I assume it’s related to the line about the buses being halted on hills in Payten’s tweet. Can’t get there.

    Australian Rugby / RA

I don't think easy. Commentary I have heard (Craig Hutchinson who knows a bit about sports media rights) is that the AFL had the perfect conditions for their deal. Strong competition, etc. The market now has less competition, and with Fox apparently up for sale, this has further depressed the...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

It's about two thirds of the way through. The article talks about the wider TV rights negotiation as part of why Shute Shield can't get the deal they want from RA.

Maybe they need to acknowledge broadcast isn’t for them if it isn’t sustainable.

    Australian Rugby / RA

It’s either a long term contract or not. If one party can terminate at will the other is able to do so as well. It’s a risk if the coach is performing and gets a better offer.

They would be RA emails most likely. It’s a sensationalist way to report on discovery (sharing of documents that are relevant to the proceedings).

Also the journo seems to have got the dates wrong. Looks like it’s actually 21 November. https://www.comcourts.gov.au/file/Federal/P/VID1059/2024/3995751/event/31996795/document/2380929

As a subset of super rugby, anyone who has any interest in it will get it. I don't think there is an audience to be confused by it.
