Macqueen did not fit that mould, he ushered in 'player power' which was a part of the reason we have gone downhill since.

I assume the replacement is already in place, going out on a WW search would not gain us a lot ATT. I am assuming Joe will go. Your opening sentence belies where we were in world rugby, also a bit of an insult I thought to 'like' the guy dismisses what he has done with this team.

Nobody is irreplaceable but if he goes he will be remembered as one of the great coaches along with Macqueen, Jones v1, Dwyer et al. I expect that we will build a solid coaching group to follow him. I also believe Daniel Herbert and Phil Waugh can do this.

Been away for a while, what is happening with the Rebels fixture?

Long time between games Slim many changes in recovery etc. The warm up game v Fiji I have no issue with but the Tahs fixture seems will be lacking some key players, depending on how they go in Super Rugby. The saving grace is that the B&ILplay Qld only 3 days before tahs.

SOunds like a stuff up to me. I imagine that Tahs supporters would like to see the best team play the Lions as would Lions supporters. Then the match v Fiji one day later would either not feature a full Wallaby squad or the Tahs would have a weakened squad.

Always liked Whitaker as a player, he seemed pretty grounded in more ways than the bench.

There are always people who are knowledgeable and focused but fail to get results for whatever reason. It really doesn't matter, if you don't produce results you are in the wrong game.

This is where our focus needs to be set. If Schmidt can lift the Wallabies, who can lift the coaches?

Great news! I support this idea. The politics has yet to start, and I hope it doesn't, but history is against it.

Assume Super Rugby season? Wallaby season is too late. I would prefer, assuming they have the person lined up already ie Kiss/Larkham that they would join the Wallabies as assistants for the games until Schmidt retires. That way anything they needed to know could be handed on by Schmidt directly.

Agree, but don't think he will change his mind. At the end of 25, we should be in a far better shape all round than when he came. That's good enough for me. Let him retire, he's set down a blueprint for how rugby in Australia can progress.

I disagree with this bit as there have been times when our forwards have been equal and, in some instances, dominant. Our athleticism is equal to any and better than most due to our outdoor sports culture, which, although dampened, is still huge. As an instance in 2019 we beat the AB's 47-26...

I have always assumed it would be Les Kiss or Stephan Larkham.

I agree Barbarian, if Schmidt wants to move on then we shouldn't attempt to keephim in an oversight role. He can go back to retirement and look after his family. Whoever is the incoming coach, I am sure Schmidt will take a phone call if there are some areas the new coach wants to discuss with...

    Aussie Player Exodus

True and we have gotten used to it, each one gets weighed up against who is left and what impact it would have. I would have been more upset had it been Cale or Leota (Williams as a 6 as well). As it is, the pain is bearable as long as the madness of Achilles tendon injuries is behind us.

The great thing is Schmidt didn't have to risk much, all of us know there are good prospects in the backrow, Leota, Cale, Hooper et al. Had it been 10, centre or full-back would have been interesting.

Slightly different dynamic Strewth, one is planning for the future of Australian rugby and the other is looking after his future.
