    Sydney Subbies 2025

I know Drummoyne are really good and Newport are the new kids on the block, but hosting up at Porter gives them almost a bonus point head start. The worst ground to be a visitor at in my experience - sea breeze, rabid crowd, sometimes you'd be glad to lose so that you'd make it out alive. Don't...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

With all the discussion of jerseys, I had a bit of free time to prepare this graphic of all Subbies jerseys/colours this season in the style that the Shute Shield has used recently. A few recurring patterns here...

Hunters Hill can clash with Mosman and Lindfield as well but not as bad. You could realistically end up with a situation where Drummoyne get replaced by Petersham and everyone in the Div has blue or contrasting hoops. Good luck if that ever happens.

For sure - I'm not sure exactly how it works but it would also include people who've played 1 game of Halligans I assume. Maybe there could be a Halligans-exempt rule or something of that ilk if the rego cap were to be introduced

All very good points and hitting the nail on the head for why it isn't a perfect solution and why there'd need to be a lot of consideration before any such policy was implemented. Take a Div One club, for example. If we implemented a 30/grade and 50/Colts system, each club could register up to...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

I think the best compromise has been reached for Div Two - Irish were the next team up given their rise over the past few years. Same happened with Harlequins in 2022(?). However, the flip side is the player hoarding I alluded to before, except that this time it's in 4th Grade for Waves' 6th XV...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

Obviously not but the blokes in 2nds are, pushing 3rds down to 4ths etc etc We have no Colts in some divisions but then clubs can field a 2nd Colts or for district clubs 5ths and 6ths in Subbies lower divisions. What I'm alluding to is "player hoarding" at the haves which removes player pools...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

I personally don't see 16+ Subbies clubs fielding 3+ grades and Colts. When some clubs can field 6 or more grades in Div One with the chance of getting a run in Kentwell, the players have already voted with their feet.

I think you may have your lines crossed somewhere - Penrith v Burra Meldrum is showing on rugby.net.au as being at A R Hurst, Sylvania on May 3rd (Round 3). Souths are playing at Rothwell v Briars same day at 3pm (alas, I'll be away) in the women's Chikarovski Cup. I know we had some late...

I can help you with Rothwell (I'm the commentator for the club) - assuming you're with Burraneer for Colts against Briars, we'll be on NSW Rugby TV in any case so you may not need your own camera (but completely understand if you'd want to bring your own for coaching). We have a pavilion with a...

It's hard enough getting the correct Four'N Twenty matchballs on the field most weeks - every time we have played UNSW it has been gold v gold and a nightmare to call. Realistically, "away" jerseys would be ideal but are probably above our paygrades in Subbies.

The wonder of NSW Rugby TV means that it's getting harder to hide gems

Just round 1 - a completely new look Petersham in fairness, we were ambushed and struggled to adjust to our new side. Good to see Shammies bounce back after last year.

I would agree 100% - the problem is that the amateur policy also restricts a lot more than just match payments and that's where things would get tricky. Not saying that should be a block but Subbies is, rightly, very strict around those policies and they are generally incompatible at SRU level.

This is why having these alignments would help, however you could also see how this would disadvantage certain clubs too. Imagine playing Chatswood with Gordon discards but having few discards yourself from say Two Blues or Wests. Bigger concern for Subbies would be ensuring integrity with...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

I think, in fairness to Forest, you have to give them a little bit of a parachute having just been relegated from Div One. Look where they are in Sydney, they are easy pickings for Newport, Mosman and Lindfield who can offer Barbour to players. If, at the end of the season, they haven't got a...

Don't forget it's a disjointed start to the season too - one week of games, Easter break and a de facto long weekend with ANZAC Day on a Friday. They say you don't win premierships in the first month but you can lose them. Will be interesting in April.

Sydney Harbour fielding 5 grades + Halligans and 3 Colts teams from the brink of oblivion... What do you mean April Fools was days ago?

    Sydney Subbies 2025

West Harbour are more likely to strike up a partnership with Drummoyne than us, which is weird because we've had a number of people involved at WH before or after us. There is a massive disconnect - I'd describe it as a gulf - for absolutely 0 reason as Pfitzy alludes to. Prem clubs can...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

I'm not going to even acknowledge the first part of that statement (I'd be angry too knowing the Renegades Roll could never reach the lofty heights of the Briars Burger) but as for the drop-in pitches, I think Drummoyne would get first preference from Canada Bay Council and they can't even get...
