If you could change the laws of rugby, what would you change?

To stop long range shots at goal, you could also award a scrum to the opposition at the place you took the kick if you missed. It would add a risk/reward for taking the points. Unfortunately it would also encourage more cynical play as penalties wouldn't be as much of a punishment.

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

I must admit, I'm very surprised by those numbers for the netball. I didn't even know they had a GF on.

    Waratahs v Highlanders, semi-final, Saturday 27 June

I've got a fair crew of some occasional attendees as well as partners, plus a few others I know of who'll be going. I think there should be a pretty decent crowd. I predict somewhere between 30-35k based on absolutely nothing scientific whatsoever.

    Hurricanes V Brumbies Semi-Final, Sat 27th June

I have to admit, I scoffed pretty hard at Graham Henry for making excuses when I first heard about this problem after he complained about it. After viewing a few Tahs games live this season though, I was appalled at what they didn't show. As a spectator, I want to see replays of interesting or...

    Hurricanes V Brumbies Semi-Final, Sat 27th June

It might be getting a bit TOO off topic, but I really hope they don't go the way of FIFA in banning replays at the park. It really takes away from the spectacle at the ground and means even with free tickets, I don't like going to WC qualifiers and the like, as the viewing experience I get at...

    Waratahs 2016

My understanding is that the Volvo deal was a pretty sweet one for Volvo, as the Tahs were floundering without a major sponsor before last season. I imagine the Tahs are probably aiming up, but I don't know the economics of rugby warrants it. I think you're right that they will get a major...

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

I think the lesson is that even if you are good when you're young, nothing is guaranteed. I think often young guys figure that if they've gotten to where they are when they're young, they'll have another shot at it. That's not always the case. It's the same way that young players making finals...

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

Not just for pride's sake. That's also ~$10,000 he would be missing out on in match appearance fees. (I think that's the rough number though happy to be corrected).

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

I know there's a lot of extra emotion around it because it's a representative squad, but I see Hunt's selection as similar to Naiyarovoro's in the Tahs. He's someone with the necessary skill set to do what Cheika wants, that he probably thinks he can mold into a valuable member of the team. If...

If you could change the laws of rugby, what would you change?

I also think there's a lot of value to having a guaranteed home final for each nation as well. Imagine if the only Australian team were playing in South Africa this week, the level of interest would be way down. Yes it's not all about commercialities, but it's a very real constraint that must be...

    Stormers v Brumbies Qualifier

I know, it was a (poor) attempt at humour. My point was I think it will be a close loss :)

Super Rugby 2015, the run home

So the Hurricanes have only lost two games this season- to the Crusaders who are no longer in it and to the Tahs. Will anyone be able to knock them off in the finals?

    Avatar /Signature Bets

Come on Dismal, surely we can get some bets going for the International season. I'd love to see you rocking a Quade Cooper avatar, dressed resplendently in Wallaby gold.

    Stormers v Brumbies Qualifier

The Stormers resting most of their starting side makes me think back to the Waratahs in 2002, when they lost to the Crusaders by 90 odd before crumbling in the semi. Obviously the Stormers didn't do quite as horribly, but I think there's a lot to be said for momentum and being on a run of wins...

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

Australian rugby supporters are very tribalistic within the code. You look at the legitimate vitriol between, for example: NSW and QLD NSW and ACT Traditional vs non-traditional markets Club supporters vs the NRC GPS/Syd Uni/others vs those heavily against Country vs City Some of this is...

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

Hmm it's interesting that you still watch the Shute Shield but not the NRC. I can't bring myself to watch SS, because the teams mean less to me than the NRC ones. I think that's a problem, where there's a big gap between rusted on club rugby supporters who started with the game 15-20 years...

Wallabies v. Springboks, 18th July 2015, Suncorp, Brisbane

I'm not saying we should necessarily go with the two open sides in 2015, I just think good reasoning should be used to argue against it. If you think it won't work THIS time because pilfering is less important (which isn't Hooper's strength anyway) and because it will weaken our scrums, fine...

Wallabies v. Springboks, 18th July 2015, Suncorp, Brisbane

You mean the failure that involved us being a bees dick away from winning a RWC that we had no business being anywhere near?

    Waratahs 2015

I don't think consistency really matters as much when you reach the finals. You only need to win two or three games, and it's completely feasible that an inconsistent team can manage that. I would say that consistency matters to make the finals, but from there it's a combination of who has the...

    Lions v Waratahs - Round 16, 30 May 2015

I wouldn't be surprised if he's a bit torn between his two roles at the moment. Probably wants TPN for the Tahs, but also wants to make sure he's 100% for the Wallabies.
