    Rebels 2012

Thanks LG. I thought it was Walsh but to me that didn't make sense (at the time). In hindsight of course it makes sense and it is the perfect way to develop young refs. The body language of Walsh at the final missed knock-on was interesting and in my eyes very funny and telling. He really...

    Rebels 2012

They targeted Vuna for the second half and made yards. I didn't see Vuna last year. They didn't bust through to score but they did target that wing. JOC (James O'Connor) provided some very good cover.

    Rebels 2012

According to the interview with Hill in the paper Inman didn't play.

    Rebels 2012

But a rolling maul must move forward and should not get 4 goes at moving forward. After 2 it is "use it or lose it". when the defence hold the maul up pushes it backwards and then the Chiefs are still allowed to play their own ball then what more is the defense to do. Oh go and question the...

    Rebels 2012

Sorry poor humour. Muxt have been Tameifuna. He probably is 6 foot. He just doesn't look it. He is seriously as wide as he is tall. Moved well for his build.

    Rebels 2012

They announced the ref before the game but as I was still queueing via the 'one ticket at time, select, print and process appraoch" I missed his name. A fairly slight mousy blond guy who looked young and out of his depth. The tall dark haired assistant ref/touchie was trying to correct his...

    Rebels 2012

Seriously the ticket staff must have shared one brain cell between them. All it would have taken was for one staff member to print off 100 tickets at a time and sell them. But no each order was processed one at a time. Totally brain dead. The parking staff were marginally better.

    Rebels 2012

The 40 definitely hooked, but "wide boy" does not do him justice.:) He looked shorter than 6 foot.

    Rebels 2012

Good at times. They did marshall the defence very well for certain periods. It was a trial and they did play lots of players. I beleive it was with AJ Gilbert on (and Delve off) that the defense was well organised and coordinated early in the 3rd. Gilbert took a cheap high shot late in the...

    Rebels 2012

Good question. On the whole they had little idea and were very unhappy/disappointed about "how slow" scrums are. As per the stats on times in scrums, gathered and posted previously they may have a point. A solid Geelong AFL contingent in attendance that thought the game was way, way too slow...

    Rebels 2012

Over 5000 in attendance. One note on the following. That was my first Rebels game so I can't compare to last year. If games could be sliced into 5 minute compartments and then reset the Rebels would most probably be good. The Chiefs were too big, too organised and two "methodical"...

Things that get up my nose about rugby these days

I clearly stated "splintered". The back 3 players of a maul cannot splinter away from the maul and "form a new maul". If I wasn't clear, that's what I'm referring to. The English do it real well with a 6 man maul. the front three go left and take the defenders and the back 3 go right with no...

Things that get up my nose about rugby these days

The more games I see in 2011 the more the "torpedo" loosie coming into a ruck, from all angles, is really annoying. It's clearly against the laws yet refs are allowing it constantly. I'm guessing this is an interpretation that will only get cleaned up when someone is seriously hurt in a ruck...

    Heineken European Cup 2012

Was at the Leicester vs Clermont game. Not great but entertaining enough. Good defence by Clermont but some luck and a couple of busts and Leicester just got up. Interesting listening to Richard Cockerill after the game and him slaming Nigel Owens, Paddy O'Brien and the IRB for the mess...

Breakaway English, French, Saffa super rugby plans

PB Agree. But you must give them something to aspire to imho. And thus by some form of definition you promote players who do not fully deserve it and thus deny a meritocracy. But I fear we may have derailed this thread to far. Maybe a mod could split it as it is a valid discussion.

Breakaway English, French, Saffa super rugby plans

Fair points. If I had an answer I would probably be employed in a different field. I accept that my view is more of a "noble" one and in practice there are many constraints in place. From a personal perspective I lean to an ethical and moral standpoint on most issues so yes I do believe that...

Breakaway English, French, Saffa super rugby plans

Given the thread has been hijacked, if I may continue the hijacking. As an Aussie who has lived in SA I'll provide a slight counter view. I think that quota's are a good thing and do need to be enforced. The path to a team like the Springboks, is impossible for an Eastern Cape youngster to...

    Rougeries's eye gouge

Give it a rest Jay. He's Sir Richie, not St. Richie. He's as hard as they come and he gets his digs in as often as anyone else at that level. You don't play his role for as long and as well as RM has without being as hard as nails and giving as good as you get. All kudos to him, but don't...

Preaching to the converted. RWC impact on the Non Converted

The Austrian barman at the spa resort in Serfaus (Dolomites) Austria, that I was at last Sunday, knew the result of the QF's and could discuss the importance of a) the French beating the English and b) the AB vs Wobs semi final this weekend. I was impressed. He got a good tip.

    RWC 2011 - Quarter final 3 : Springbokke v. Wallabies CLOSED

Watched the game in Heidelberg, Germany, on ITV and the British commentators have given up on Bryce. They are now criticising the ref more than I ever do. Funny stuff actually. I think we've found the kiwi that choked. :D :D
