    Sydney Colts - 2015

    How'd he go?

    Sydney Colts - 2015

Ok, thanks for clarification. Given this is a colts thread, assumed you meant colts, which is why it was surprising and noteworthy, given my comment re his performance in colts. Equally noteworthy (though not surprising) that he's in Shute Shield grade. Good luck to him - a deserved shot at...

    Sydney Colts - 2015

"Tommy Sawden named in 3rd grade." Saw him out at concord when Easts were playing the Woodies (I think it was) and he was pretty sharp in Colts 1s - probably their best on the day. Perhaps he's returning from a short-term injury?

2015 IRB Junior Rugby World Cup - Italy

As soon as you see a referee touching the props' shoulders to 'hold them steady' or something (who knows what they are thinking) you know they have no idea about the scrum. Even some of the international refs do this 'touch the prop's shoulders' thing - as if that's going to make any difference...

2015 IRB Junior Rugby World Cup - Italy

Agree re lineouts. Most throws were either crooked (2 or 3) or went over the jumpers to be collected by the opposition at the back (another 2 or 3). There was also some loose carries where the ball was lost forward. Also a couple of good tackles and carries, but a pretty mediocre performance. I...

I thought Mafi was a hooker?

2015 IRB Junior Rugby World Cup - Italy

Yes, perhaps I was too strong on that line of thought. But my main point is that where there is a choice between two blokes of roughly equal skill and ability, they will tend to choose a forward from Qld/BB rather than NSW, given the plethora of NSW backs who will be gimmies for the squad. So...

Nice go Hans, and we've got to start somewhere with reading the tea leaves, but even for those attending the games I think it's going to be a crystal ball gazing exercise. The Australian U20s coaches will already have their squad down on paper for the Oceania Tournament in Brisbane, and how...

2015 IRB Junior Rugby World Cup - Italy

Hugh, you are right about the above re game time. Rappy has told the boys they are there to win the tournament, as convincingly as possible, so they are starting with their strongest team at every match. Subs are only being used for injury, and to keep the starting players a little fresher for...

2015 IRB Junior Rugby World Cup - Italy

Indeed, it is rhetorical. But used this most obvious of examples to counter some of the inferences creeping into posts in this thread that there are some boys who are incumbent, obvious selections, a year older, were in U20s last year, etc, which means they would be the natural choice. While...

Lee, you are right - we need to wait till the Canberra games to see what's what. But seems to me that any player in any position in one of these three squads can be selected for the National Squad, as well as those currently injured. Won't the selectors have their clipboards and be tasked...

Barbarians Phil Bradford Connal McInerney (I think.)

Fair 'nuff Lee re Anderson (I knew he had been involved and thought he had been in some trials, but I bow to your superior notebook :) But I'm 100% certain about Craig, and I know you've confirmed that elsewhere. Great to watch them on Sat v Souths and Norths. The previous match reports have...

2015 IRB Junior Rugby World Cup - Italy

Just browsing around, and was interested to see this list of boys from the SJRU U16 Zone teams list in 2012 on this web page (http://www.juniors.rugbynet.com.au/). So many familiar names from the various Schoolboy association 1st XV teams, and some in the current NSW U20s squad. And some I find...

2015 IRB Junior Rugby World Cup - Italy

Interesting info above. However, not all correct. I can tell you that Anderson and Craig were training and playing in the trials right up to and including last Friday's internal trial at TG Milner, based on info from my contacts at EDRUFC. Anderson may have missed the odd hit-out due to injury...
