Thanks Cash! I can't recall the last time someone thought I'd said or done anything that could be described as 'sane'!!

Sorry Bismarck, but to suggest that Storey & Atiola are 'very unfit' is just ludicrous - you're citing a previous post to support your claim, but I think it was one of my posts actually, and I was making the point then that Helu, the large tight-head prop, was not a 70 min player because of his...

Just saw the blog on the GPS Special Awards, and couldn't resist a parting shot at the selectors before departing to watch cricket over the summer. In the immortal words of John McEnroe.....'You cannot be serious!!!!' How does Opeti Helu rate as the first choice for loose-head prop when he...

Well spotted!! But just for the record, the try was scored by Atiola......and no-one deserved to score a match-winning try more than this fantastic young bloke - hopefully we'll see him playing Colts somewhere next year!

I think it would be fair to describe Teu Atiola as a wrecking ball, given his non-stop 70 min performances week in and week out which included countless big hits and more metres in attack than almost every other forward - Helu could be, but wasn't fit enough and didn't have an impact beyond the...

My mistake - I forgot that Wilson played loose head against Kings as a replacement for Jacob Storey, and even though he was binding illegally on his hooker's shorts (check the video) Chapman clearly struggled in every scrum of the match.

I'm not saying that they'll select Horne in 1sts next year - only suggesting they should! But to be clear, Horne is a loose-head prop who has played in the position for some time and is very good at it. Helu was parachuted into the tight-head position over Wilson, who played the first 3 trial...

Poidevin probably has the height to play lock, but I can't imagine anyone wanting to waste McKay's scavenging/roaming ability by bogging him down in the tight five.

Very good point - I've already made a comment about Cameron Horne vs Opeti Helu in the front-row - my theory being that excellent technical skill, great strength, very high work-rate, great work ethic, and versatility should (and I stress the word 'should' here) trump bulk every time -...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2016

I agree with almost all of this, apart from the selection of Helu at tight-head, where he was found wanting for much of this season, and Taukamo in the centres and Gilfedder on the wing - I'd swap those two around, because I think the more agile Gilfedder is a better option in the mid-field...

New Blog Post: GPS Round 10 – Dramatic finale at Stanmore

Correction - the Newington hooker, human dynamo and match-winning try-scorer is TEU Atiola - the larger (but far less dynamic) tight-head prop was Opeti Helu

As an old boy, you shouldn't be too disappointed. As I said in a previous post, the current school boys who ran on to the field after the winning try did so in a spontaneous celebration of the victory following two very close, very tense and very hard-fought matches - I can't speak for the old...

You need to lighten up! There was a great atmosphere at the ground and we'd already witnessed a great win by 2nds in the dying seconds of the previous game (clearly I'm a New supporter!) and the enormous crowd witnessed an outstanding display of schoolboy rugby again in the main game. Unless you...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2016

I haven't seen any of the 16s games this year, so wasn't sure about Haldane, and I note that he's listed at #10 in the team sheet for tomorrow (but may well just be a typo). My suggestion of Gilfedder in the centres was based on a couple of observations - he's not dissimilar in size to Cameron...

After watching all of the 1sts & 2nds games this season (including trials) this would be my Newington team for 2016: 1. Cameron Horne 2. Adam Goodman 3. Isi Halaufia / Opeti Helu 4. Wilson Kearns 5. Louis Grey 6. Tom Serhon / Christian Poidevin 7. Max McKay 8. Nathan Lawson 9. Isaac Lewis 10...

Sorry about that - I got a bit carried away while thinking about some of the unheralded performers of this season's 2nds. While I'm apologising though I'd like to say sorry for omitting Tom Serhon from my previous post - he'll be somewhere in the pack in 1sts next year.

Apologies to Ben Wickett - he's been outstanding in his last few games, filling in at lock, in the back row, and at prop - strong, fast, and very good in the open. Goodman & Horne were 2/3 of the 2nds front row for most of the year, and formed a formidable combination with Wilson at...
