    The Wallabies Thread

The problem is that the selection of Hooper is not one that occurs in isolation. The question isn't "is Hooper the best player in his position?", but "is the team best served by Hooper wearing the seven?". Given Pocock's sabbatical, the answer to the first question is 'yes'. The answer to the...

Aye. I think one of our better on-paper back rows is 6. Higgers 7. Pocock 8. McMahon/Timani/Nasairani But there's a glaring problem with it, too.

Junior rugby based on weight classes

Interesting! Isn't under 15s when they start playing the closest to the adult laws? Or is that u13s? Where are all the kids who currently play rugby going to go? Why will this affect playing numbers that badly?

Junior rugby based on weight classes

So, you have no kids but know what kids want out of sport? Are you a teacher or a junior coach? I think weight for age makes sense between the introduction of contact to u15 or so. I also doubt there are so many man-babies running around that it'd have a detrimental impact on numbers. What...

Cheika's on another level. Playing five-dimensional chess, and we're all playing checkers.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Seems to me that it should be relatively easy for the ARU to make the argument that it's a different agreement, based on that. Then again, I'm not a lawyer, and the ARU have a habit of shooting themselves in the foot. I have heard elsewhere that 5 teams seems to be highly likely for next year...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Can the government or the IRB forcibly dissolve the ARU board?

    Where to for Super Rugby?

    Well, that seems incredibly unnecessary.

    Reds 2018

The Crusaders are amassing a good little collection of Aussies- hopefully they can all come home after being up-skilled.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Given that David Niu was tagged in that post on Twitter, I can only imagine that it's some hare-brained scheme to develop that extended version of sevens or something.

    Concussions and Protecting Our Players

Yeah, that's an absolute shocker. Rugby is light years ahead of league though, in terms of head injury protocols.

    Concussions and Protecting Our Players

Just to reiterate how bad this is, here's a visual presentation of the damage done. Top=normal brain; bottom=CTE brain:

I feel like there's a joke to be had about the ARU and 'intellectual' anything.

    Concussions and Protecting Our Players

Yeah, I saw this reported and had similar thoughts about rugby. Should be sobering reading for all those keyboard warriors (and bombastic commentators) who think that head-high hits shouldn't be punished as harshly as they are.

So, the CFO has resigned. He insists, of course, that there's nothing untoward about his resignation whatsoever. He's certainly *not* jumping off a sinking ship.

I never actually referred to Latu- hadn't even heard that he was injured.

They've been doing fitness in Brisbane- from what I've seen there's nothing to suggest that Hunt didn't participate in that. Nabuli was fit for the Reds' last game (and I don't recall him going off injured- though I stopped watching at about 60 minutes).

So, Cheika's "toughen 'em up" routine has resulted in the injury of two players so far. I wonder how many more will go down before we play a game? Three sessions a day, including hill sprints is asking for trouble- what are the S&C staff thinking? It's pretty telling that both injuries have...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I think that the Own the Force campaign is much more likely to secure the long-term future of the Force than whatever Twiggy decides to do.

    Rebels 2018

I think that a community-ownership model would be fantastic if it could be applied to every Australian Super Rugby team. Especially if we end up in a Pacific S12 with just the kiwis/Japan/Fiji.The only thing is shareholder representation on the board. I have no idea how the governance should be...
