    Sydney Subbies 2025

Good to hear, thanks for sharing that. So those clubs are realistically sending their 5ths colts out into the landscape? I know Uni sent a relatively substandard outfit into the Div 3 Colts comp two years ago, the Easts guys were heavyweights last year and the year prior in that comp, and...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

Anecdotally, I'm told Gordon has been turning Colts away this year, having filled the 3 requisite teams and more than extensive benches for each. The worry the club has is that they will lose these guys from the game all together, not to Subbies. It's baffling to me that they don't link up...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

Probably an obvious answer I'm missing here but why is Div 1 not starting until 26/04 whilst the rest of the divisions start Saturday?

The second grade finals will be hilarious if Barker and Beecroft both fold their second grade side.. 4 teams, 4 finals spots. Take the whole year off then show up for 3 weeks and you're good

I don't believe so given they've listed a second grade kickoff time on club socials - highly unlikely we see a "forfeitt" in that game. Seems like it'll be just Beecroft and Old Barker who struggle for a second grade.

I've said a few times with the number of school rugby teams rapidly decreasing there isn't as much talent to spread around anymore. Knox (the school) seems to have a strong relationship with Gordon so a lot of the top talent go there. One promising trend appears to be a number of those players...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

Whilst I can't speak directly for them, in my experience the high school linked clubs with strong rugby programs find it relatively easy to get a group of colts together (given they were all mates at school in the years prior) but find it markedly harder keeping that group around to cycle...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

Too long between drinks my friends, Div 3 Week 1 predictions are ready to roll, 6 team comp, 3 games against each opponent, certainly makes for very interesting planning by coaches, teams could be meeting 5 times if they go the major minor finals structure! In any case: Clark Cup (1st Grade)...

Death taxes and a pfitzy alignment post, keep fighting the good fight big man.

    Sydney Subbies 2025

I'd say there's a very solid list of clubs who've been promoted in Div 1 from Div 2 and become a permanent fixture there since. In my time in the comp, we've seen Blue Mountains and Waverley come up and become heavyweights. Hunters Hill went up and down a bit before solidifying and becoming...

    Wallabies 2025

Irrelevant but I met Joe Powell on a night out in Melbourne once when he was with the Rebels still, such a stand up bloke who gave a very intoxicated me a lot of his time for a chat. Hope he's doing well.

    Shute Shield 2025

With the development in robotics, AI and video software can we really put it past him?

    Sydney Subbies 2025

On this, how do we feel about a finals structure where only the top 3 make it in a 6 team comp. 1 plays 2, loser plays 3 the next week to meet the winner of 1 and 2 in the grand final? Prevents a team with likely more losses than wins rolling into the finals and still provides an overall...

Having played against all those sides over the past 5 or so years (Uni, Pats, Irish) I see Irish's forwards being on par with just about anybody in Div 2, though I do think they'll get minced by Briars in the backs. Mind you, Merrylands was electric 9-15 last year and they kept them at bay...

I'd imagine that also had something to do with Valley and Raptors withdrawing, tough when you've got to be the team that travels 1.5 hours (depending on time and traffic) every second week while the other teams are travelling 10 minutes down the road - especially when you're up until midnight...

How do you think Hills will fare in div 3 this year?

Good to hear, thought you guys played with great spirit last year despite the circumstances. Best of luck to you and enjoy that great St Ives clubhouse! Will be watching keenly Maybe this is the way... definitely a correlation between the joint mens and womens clubs and their success lately...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

I'm actually a fan of this set up. Ideally you'd have one of Div 1 or Div 3 down or up into Div 2 so that it's an even 7-8 across the first 4 divisions, but I'm sure that will resolve itself next year. Going to be some great contests across the Divs, here's my EARLY predictions: Div 1: First...

They do indeed, they're very good at it and have some big solid blokes in the pack to execute it well. They're every bit of the Irish label they've got. Makes for good, stylistic contests though, given the likes of Merrylands, Sydney Harbour, Knox etc. all play a much faster, more expansive...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

I don't think they'll ever be able to compete with the Waves in terms of facilities and location. Coogee, though VERY popular amongst the Irish, isn't Bondi. I do think there is a cool opportunity for an England vs Ireland style match if the two sides do ever find themselves in the same div...
