    Japanese Super Rugby Team

Me too - but I worry about this nonsense of them playing half their games in bloody Singapore. It really just makes this whole thing look very poorly thought out.

    Wallabies v Barbarians - 1/11/14 (Twickenham)

Except neither of those teams fielded teams full of Boks and ABs...

    Robbie Deans

I've always had a lot of time for Robbie, even if I too was left a little exasperated by his selections. I've not read the book yet, but in his interviews about it over in NZ, you can see that he's a very circumspect and fair minded bloke, and that he genuinely cared deeply about the game in...

    Wallabies v Barbarians - 1/11/14 (Twickenham)

That's a pretty handy looking side. Can't wait to see Kurindrani and Speight linking back up again, and also how the Reds halves go back in the saddle for the first time in a while.

Australian Rugby's greatest day of shame....

The way the ARU have been handling things you'd have to think it'd be some time in early February.

Haven't seen you mods get involved when people go on tangents bagging League for some reason. Anyway, that was very much my point if you look at my post on the last page; that Rugby needs to talk about the areas of the game so often criticised by fans of other football codes as positives...

No, it really says more about them. I don't tell people off for using the word "football" in any scenario, but work with guys who get into a massive tiz if I use the word "soccer" and then feel the need to give me a sermon on their game and why it'll take over Australia when I argue it's a...

LoL I'm sure it does - but then are you saying yours doesn't? I still think I have a point - soccer fans are the biggest wankers of any football code in Australian sports. All the sanctimonious nonsense that gets bandied about by their fans about its cultural sophistication and ownership of the...

USA v All Blacks Test - Chicago November 2014

How would you have marketed it in the states given the opportunity?

    Australian Rugby / RA

Nah, it's MacDonalds - it's all over the world, pretends it's cultured by throwing in the odd locally targeted burger with a chunk of beetroot or salsa, but ultimately its all the same crap and you wouldn't eat it if you had pretty well anything else available.

USA v All Blacks Test - Chicago November 2014

Well, when you think about it defining the two forms of rugby with their respective organisational or competition structures is just downright stupid, so it's little wonder that people get confused.

I prefer my Maccas comparison. But that's just because I hate soccer more than any other sport and happen to hate Maccas too .

USA v All Blacks Test - Chicago November 2014

Well, to be fair for Americans the idea of having two rugby codes is confusing I'm sure... I can't be too rough on them anyway - I went to visit friends in Canada a couple years back and went to a CFL game and had no idea it was actually a different sport to American Football.

What is it? I've always referred to soccer as the MacDonald's of world sport: cheap, ubiquitous, accessible and basically crap.

Not quite the analogy I'd have gone with - we don't exactly want to just have a few hundred multi-millionaires as the only people attending games each paying $20,000 a ticket. I'd say the analogy was almost there - rugby is wine in general, whilst Rugby League is beer. Both have overlap in...

Yes absolutely. Development deserves its own article, and given the lack of funding available and being set-aside for development I thought I'd leave it for now. But you're absolutely right; the perception of the game by wide sections of Australian society is that it's a game for the 'elbow...

Getting back to the original point of this thread, regarding the ARU and how they measure success, I think it's a multi-layered answer. I apologise if the length is a bit much but: The first two are obvious - - on field success: the teams that compete on the provincial and international stage...

    Wallabies v Barbarians - 1/11/14 (Twickenham)

When's the team get named, do we know?
  19. TahDan

    Kurtley Beale

Are you sure about that? The way things work at the ARU I'd bet there'd be an extended inquiry punctuated by numerous leaks to the papers before anything was done.

    Kurtley Beale

What has that got to do with the NRL? That was all ASADA and you know it.
