    CAS Rugby 2017

Barker is a good example, approx 210 boys per year group. Looking at the boys sport draw on the web site - last week across the high school they fielded 17 rugby teams and 37 soccer teams. Only 2 teams in u16 and 2 in u14. Agree there is something bigger going on in junior rugby.....

My kids must be at a different school. To us it looks like Barker invests much more in coaching and facilities for rugby than any other sport, despite a lot more students playing soccer. The comments about the powers that be are bizarre - the Head attends every first XV game (home & away) and...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

clearly a long history to this and the doublethink is beyond me so i think i will quietly bow out of this thread.....

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Agree there is no link, an example of the narrative fallacy. The population of Sydney is growing rapidly and there are no new GPS schools. The proportion of enrollments driven by rugby success is very low. Numbers enrolled have grown, but much slower than the population.

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

I'm new to this thread and slightly puzzled - it is a very active thread devoted to scholarships. How is it that they are precluded? In practice scholarship/ bursary recruitment seems to be the normal practice, so I can only conclude the so called agreement has been abandoned. Which leads me...

Could be. They are enrolling such large numbers it becomes a numbers game.....

    CAS Rugby 2016

Barker Aloys must rate as one of the worst 1st XV games I have seen in a very long time. Understand there were players out, playing out of position etc. But, the amount of dropped ball, missed tackles, passing back and forth to static players, uncontested scrums, missed lineout throws etc made...

Barker Knox soccer on Friday night played to a packed house on Knox No.1. Saturday afternoon rugby had spare seats at both ends. Smallest crowd i've seen at this fixture in many years

    CAS Rugby 2016

Looking at the fixture lists for this week: Barker: 18 rugby teams; 36 soccer teams Trinity: 17 rugby teams; 30 soccer teams Waverley: 23 rugby teams; 28 soccer teams (Knox, Cranbrook, and Aloys do not seem to be on the public pages, so someone else may be able to post those numbers)...

Anstey (Barker 1) rolled his ankle very early, struggled on for a bit and was then replaced. He is one of the top props in the comp and was badly missed

Think I'll copy my pre-season post from last year: Knox have the players this year. Very strong group coming through - very fit, big, lots of training together. Knox should win everything by a lot this year. Knox juggernaut continues to build on the enrollments side too. Hearing 360+ in...

    Actually only 3 teams in u14's and 4 each in 13's, 15's and 16's

    CAS Rugby 2015

I'm guessing this must have been what happened when Barker was awarded the penalty. It was in the very far side corner so difficult to see. The ref signaled obstruction so i believe you are spot on. In light of your last paragraph the subsequent attempt makes sense - Knox had the ball at the...

    CAS Rugby 2015

Interesting tactics at the lineout in the Knox Barker match. Knox were much bigger and taller than Barker. Knox scored their first try late in the first half – forming a maul from a lineout about 15m out from the try line, they steamrolled in for a try. It was impressive and very dominant. At...

    CAS Rugby 2015

Oakhill 31 Barker 17 Oakhill led 26-7 at half time. Barker fought hard. Scrum performed much better this week (Stannies front row last week was huge) and forwards generally were better. Backs managed a few breaks. Overall I'd say a very tough year ahead for Barker. Will do well to avoid a...

From the Australian rugby FAQ page re the Two Year Window Policy: Can a player participate in an Age Grade competition more than two years above his or her age for their school/club? Yes. In exceptional cases, where a player’s physical development, skill level and experience is such that he...

As I've posted before i believe Andrew Maloney was a fine coach. This was recognised in his appointment as an Australian Schoolboys assistant coach and by being recruited to the position of Director of Rugby at Churchie. I think we need to recognize that this is a school. It is a mistake to...

Commenting on the parents when you do not know them or the boy or the situation is just malicious gossip. (Mod Note: Source Comment has been deleted) It's a well run school program, with a coach who knows what he is doing, parents who know rugby and their boy very well; and a 15 year old boy...

    CAS Rugby 2015

Agree Barker are in for a tough year. This year and next especially there is very little depth. When a few boys are out sick (like this weekend) it will be tough. Remember these are trials so fair enough that the new coaches try a few of the u16s to see what they have. Also remember that Barker...
