    CAS Rugby 2015

One thing that really struck me at the Knox Barker game was how BIG the Knox forwards were. The tight 5 were massively bigger than their opponents.

Knox are building a juggernaut. They have enrolled approx 300 boys in year 7 the last 2 years. They have invested in the Knox Sports Academy, a professional rugby coach, and rugby training is a summer sport. There will be a lot of disappointment that they did not win this year (look at the for...

By my calcs Knox have a positive points differential of 304. I'm guessing that must be the highest ever for a side not winning the Shield.

https://waverley.haikulearning.com/c/750675/file/show/4899925 This version (2012) of the By-Laws says joint premiership (see para 4.2). Not sure if it has changed since.

I think you misinterpreted me. I was just saying it is an excellent ground, and always a big crowd when they play Barker. As to your GPS question - CAS and GPS have very different approaches when it comes to rugby. Not a lot of point comparing really...

I'd rate Knox the best school rugby ground in Sydney. The clash with Barker is always a huge crowd.

    CAS Rugby 2014

There are some persistent myths about depth. Waverley are actually fielding more rugby teams this year than Barker (25-24). On the question of school numbers, here is some actual data on total 2013 enrolments from the MySchools web site: Knox 2304 (K-12) Trinity 1988 (K-12) Barker 1599 boys...

    CAS Rugby 2014

Puzzling discussion about who "deserves" to win the Henry Plume Shield. Of the 3 recent Barker wins only 1 season was undefeated. No thought of them not "deserving" it. If Cranbrook beat Aloys they will have 9 wins from 10 games and win the shield. That is how it is, and how it should be...

    CAS Rugby 2014

Looking at the draw for this weekend Trinity are only fielding 2 teams in each of the u16s, u15s, and u14s. According to the MySchools web site Trinity has 1988 boys enrolled (Barker have 1599 boys). Didn't realize rugby was so unpopular at Trinity

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

If what i have read on this thread the last couple of days is a good indication i sincerely hope CAS never get together with GPS. The two groups appear to have very different philosophies regarding the place of sport in their co-curricular programs.

Different philosophies on sport......prefer to address the arguments on their merits rather than swap insults...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

In the lower grades i've seen plenty of times when coaches start subbing other players, instruct their boys to kick etc. In American college sports where mismatches do occur from time time there is an etiquette around not unduly running up the score. Some sports have a mercy rule when the score...

Running the score up to 101 is hardly showing humility and respect for the opposition....

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

I'm new to this thread but sounds like an old claim - there are no sporting scholarships, just bursaries, boarding scholarships, indigenous scholarships etc....

    CAS Rugby 2014

Saturday's result was a big turnaround from the 46-0 first round win over Waverley. Is that evidence of a poor rugby program? Credit where it is due, Waverley have improved a lot this season and beat Knox in round 6, conceding only 10 points after leaking 58 in round 2. Knox have scored 337...

    CAS Rugby 2014

Overall CAS selections look about right. To my mind Van Zyl (K) should have been 1sts rather than Pierce (K) but the loose forwards was always going to be difficult with so many good and evenly matched players. Barkley-Brown in 2nds is tough. He is great in attack and very solid in defence...

    CAS Rugby 2014

Not sure what game you were at - the CAS v GPS match was played at Knox in difficult wet conditions. The entire Barker backline did play in that match, they were not "scrapped". [Connor Watson (K) was selected at outside centre but was injured so Cam Dove (B) was promoted] The team played very...

    CAS Rugby 2014

Kirkby played most of the game and Smerdon most of the first half. I'd argue the replacements for the suspended forwards did not represent a big downgrade. Agree Smerdon and Kirkby are genuine stars. The loss of Smerdon during the game did wipe out the Barker attack but Knox were already...

    CAS Rugby 2014

Using their matches against Barker as a form guide: Knox scored 6 tries to 1 Cranbrook 2 tries to 1 {& Smerdon(10) and Kirkby (9) were both out..} Renton kicked 5 penalty goals & 2 conversions
