The one and only Wallaby Coach thread

So getting rid of Rennie was the right move and putting Eddie in was the wrong move. Who was available to take on HC one year out that wasn't Eddie? Hamish gambled it all on Eddie and lost it all. Who knows, Rennie may have done better this year, maybe not - but looking back now it looks rash...

Look, DR wasn't setting the world alight, but there at least seemed to be a semblance of structure. Hindsight is wonderful isn't it. At the time, I was wanting to see it work seeing as we had such dismal performances with DR, I did wonder at the thinking behind sacking a coach one year out. I...

RWC Final - New Zealand v South Africa 29/10/23, 0800 NZDT

I think whichever decision they made, and it didn't come off, it was the wrong one. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. But it probably wasn't that kick that lost it - it was their poor discipline in the first half leading to 9 points off the boot.

It's the same process in mud throwing - throw enough and something will stick

I just don't realistically seeing McKellar leave the Tigers less than a year in

As if he'd want to come back here after he was dumped with a year to go on his contract

I actually want them to stick with their current gig. Improve their skills hopefully. And maybe in a few years stick their hand in

I reckon don't pay him out, make him quit, but give him enough to make look like you're not forcing him out. Give him the resources required to make the Wallabies good then if he does walk, it is his problem

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-union/i-m-so-pissed-off-eddie-jones-slams-his-critics-me-included-20231026-p5efet.html Not sure if it's a Fitzy puff piece or not, but Fitzy seems to try and stick EJ (Eddie Jones) with some hard questions. Interesting quote re not picking Hooper, Cooper or Foley for the RWC.

As they say, it's only a scam/junket if you're not involved.

Wouldn't that be every position? EDIT - Ok I see what you're saying, if you're going for a Super Rugby spot from lower down, you've got Buckley's of getting a Super Rugby gig. Still think that's not correct.

Why would they be playing this though? Surely they'd want to be earning what they're currently on in Super Rugby - so probably playing o'seas to get anywhere near that.

Actually, I care about the Tahs, and I have never had any playing membership for a Rugby team, I've just grown up watching it, and supporting my local team by going to games when I can. Maybe I'm the exception that proves your rule?

The thing is also that "club rugby" extends beyond Sydney and Brisbane's boundaries. For example, I follow the Shoalies - who play in the Illawarra comp - I have a passing interest in the Shute Shield - I've got no "tribalism" for this level of comp. But I will get up for the Waratahs.

And in the reverse - we pretty much play them all the time.

RWC Final - New Zealand v South Africa 29/10/23, 0800 NZDT

Back at the start of the comp, I was predicting a SA v Ireland final - so I'm definitely eating my hat/words. Just shows, never write off the AB's! But yeah, they've built steadily over the RWC, while SA look like they've actually plateaued! It's anyone's game this week.
