GPS First XV Awards according to @QLDGPSRUGBY on Instagram
Best young player: PJ Sua
Best Back: Jye Gray
Best Forward: Daniel Maiava
MVP: Rob Toia
Their policy was no double ups (which prevented Toia from bagging both best back and MVP). Pretty spot on i'd say. If we got a full season of Hough...
I still don't think Schmidt is a 10, rather have him at 12. Regardless he didn't deserve to make the team at either decision, Byron Smith a much better 10 than Schmidt, also if Annan wasn't injured i'm sure he'd have been in the team. Can't believe that people can pick Winikerei over Carsen...
Ponga graduated 2014, past 7 years (inclusive i'd assumed) is from 2015 season to present, in which case the best player has hands down been Jack Howarth
If that's the case then why did Nudgee whine and groan last year after losing to BBC last year? If I remember correctly there was a pretty large up-roar in the NC community about the amount of full fee boys in the team. No excuses in this case too?
Whilst there is no premier crowned this year I think this is what we can take away:
NC were the best team in the competition and deserved to win the premiership. Whilst the whole team was sensational Byron Smith, Rob Toia, Daniel Maiva, Willem Johnstone all showed they were to best at their...
Lethal in the fact that Rob Toia would sustain a career ending shoulder injury haha... There's a 2 year age gap between them, not to mention Howarth is currently in the Melbourne Storm's top 30 side. Whilst he'll leave at the end of the year, it would have been great to witness Toia in grade 12.
AGGREGATE GPS 'Team of the week' members by team through rounds 1,2,3 according to @qldgpsrugby on Instagram
NC: 17
TSS: 9
BBC: 5
ACGS: 4
GT: 4
BGS: 2
BSHS: 1
TGS: 1
IGS: 1
Another thing to note is that Byron Smith and Robert Toia are the only players to make the team all three weeks.
Robert Toia is an absolute menace. No one in the GPS can stop this man! If he returns for next year (which he won't as he's with the roosters) he might even be a bit better than Howarth....
Big one this weekend in NC vs ACGS! Keen to have GPS rugby back. Here are my tips for the coming round:
BBC vs IGS
- BBC's last home round and the last chance for some big names to get one final run around in the green, white and black. Annan back in the lineup will hopefully provide enough...
No community sport for 2 weeks means that 7 rounds can't be played and no premier crowned as a result. Will be interesting to see if GPS bother to play out the remaining rounds even though no premier can be crowned.
Heart goes out to all the boys competing, and even those who go to watch their...
Indeed, Paul Brown (Old BBC HM) got shown the door. Too much emphasis on the robotics and academics, not enough on sport. BBC are in big trouble unless they can find some new talent. It will be interesting to see if the new HM is heavily invested in sport.
The depth of Nudgee's program means...
I agree, GPS season is pretty much gone. That being said why don't we look at the future. Which teams have alot of returning talent? Who are the frontrunners for next year? One thing's for certain, BBC will be lucky to make top half of the table. (and this is coming from a BBC supporter)
