I'm not sure it's lucky we have a Lions and RWC coming up. What happens when no-one shows up to these events? There is literally no momentum going into these games now. Rugby will officially die once we struggle to get crowds and probably lose money on both events.
I'm a die hard wallabies...
I agree. I feel like both need to prove themselves by winning something this year or next. They now have the experience and position to do so, as both are in head coach positions in solid teams.
Also, if I were a coach ideally, it would be better to wait 2 years or so to see what the...
I agree.
The wallabies are in a similar position to what the Brumbies were when he took over. He brought in a clear structure, which still forms the foundation of the Brumbies game plan to this day. He also got the most out of developing players such as To'omua or Lealifano. He understands Test...
What about the following coaches:
Jake White - he completely turned around the Brumbies, won a RWC.
Jamie Joseph - I feel Australia should play more like Japan, fast paced, skill-based style.
I agree, but I do love the idea of Thorne as an assistant coach. He will drive hard work and culture. Forwards coach would suit him best, which isn't ideal as I'd prefer Laurie Fisher in the role. But if Laurie turns it down I'd love to see Thorne there.
Cooper and Higginbotham would say otherwise. Also, some of Drew Michael and To'omua’s comments about how he dropped them on a ‘hunch’ or a ‘just a feeling’ doesn’t feel me with confidence. He’s picking players on gutt feel and not giving guys an explanation or any feedback to work on there games...
Ideally, those 8 teams play more then the current super rugby schedule. More rugby for more players = more experience = better players.
It’s a long-term solution.
You can then add a Super Rugby Cup against NZ and maybe Japan or SA teams which = even more rugby.
I just think the Northern...
More rugby for elite athletes by taking away 2 teams. So less players playing elite rugby. Makes sense.
Yes more meaningless trophies and made-up tours, that's what every sporting fan really gets behind. I can't wait to buy a Possibles jersey!
I hate to say it. But keeping Eddie might be a better option. If there’s a chance this RWC was a humbling and wake up call for him. A humbled Eddie could improve as a coach.
clutching at straws I know.
Tates passing is still an issue, I don’t see him as a long term option.
But he should own the bench spot. Crazy no-one has used him as an impact player from the bench yet. I think Rennie did it once or twice only.
The only leeway (sort of) I will give to Eddie is that with the timing of the appointment there was no decent assistant coaches available at all. So he and RA really failed big time not retaining McKellar and Fisher.
I guess he thought he only needed one and they have similar styles and...
I've said it once and I'll say it again. If getting the wallabies winning again is the primary objective then you have to scrap the Giteau law and let the flood gates open.
How handy would Scott Sio have been this RWC.
Then all these players who left at there peak like the in-form Sean...
I think it's only the part where they don't guarantee the Brumbies stay in Canberra that's the problem. Giving RA the power to relocate the team at will is madness.
All the other areas around player movement and shared data and resource seem like the Brumbies are on board with.
Nice post.
People are so caught up on the quality of the super rugby teams. But I think reducing the teams is such a short-term fix.
More teams with more games is the answer. Sure, in the short-term the quality will drop but over the long-term if players are playing more games then the...
