An early public service announcement that parking at Stanmore will be very tight on Saturday as the School hosts "Back to Newington Day" for the first time in 3 years. It's always a great day for past and current members of the school community, so if you are planning to come along, allow a bit...
I don't have much of substance to say other than I was just in Stanmore and it's a stunning day for rugby. If you're anywhere near any of the games today get out and watch! Any year, any grade. You won't regret it.
I think you've hit the nail on the head. The Back to Newington Day offerings are next level, with the different groups celebrating a range of cultural elements that are at the heart of a surprisingly diverse school (Taste of Tonga, Lebanese, and many more). The standard BBQ in the shadows of...
He has been an outstanding mentor to the year 7 13A team for the last few years. He really instills great values and team culture in the boys. I appreciate the emphasis on opens competition rugby in this group but some of the most sensational work, across all the schools, is happening at...
I agree with the history on the 5th XV "silverbacks", they have definitely been around in that form since 2017. I have a bit of a dissenting view though l I think creating an environment where the year 12 boys with no aspirations for the firsts/seconds teams playing for premierships can play...
It promises to be a big day at Stanmore on Saturday with the annual "Back to Newington" day festivities. There will be two BBQs (the rugby BBQ and the "big" BBQ, as well as the taste of Tonga stand, the AFL gourmet pie stand and the little bit of Lebanon stand. And more...) So bring your...
There's an element of truth to that, but I think the coaching and program in year 7 has also been improved immensely. Lots more engagement across the teams.
Marvellous morning at Hunters Hill, great atmosphere across the playing fields.
Newington 15As lost to SJC 43-14 but the first half, in particular, was a great contest.
New 16As lost 12-5.
Entertaining games with TAS games interspersed with the Newington ones. When I left the day was...
Very sorry - I saw the soccer fixtures and assumed that the rugby ones hadn't been posted. Just read
"There will be no rugby on the last Saturday of the holidays (July 21st) against Trinity College.
Training will commence on the first day of term 3 with the first fixture back against St...
Newington play Trinity in the AJ Rae Shield games this weekend. Essentially all the A teams from 13s up play Trinity in rugby and football. Think the seconds in Opens do too.
I don't know of teams Mulford has coached, but he is a presence and positive influence at sports on the weekend. My impression is that he is highly regarded for having helped shape the broader culture of the school in his time there and will be missed when he retires this year. The Head of...
My "source", when I can distract him from the ipad long enough, suggests the 13As won 50-16 and the 13Bs put 60 points on. Good day for them (13s played on the main field at Stanmore).
That's a very important post. I think it's important to recognise the AFL's efforts and the strategies that underpin them. There's a sense of hubris in rugby circles when it comes to criticising them, even when we do it in jest.
They have created a reasonable club culture, in Sydney anyway...
