One surprise result and a few close ones. Tin Ears sneak back their first round loss to WP by beating the Brutes in the final mocvement of the match. Young Sias Ebersohn nailing the conversation , the hero of the Tin Ears. WeePee still unbeaten. The Guppies nearly got a freight from the Pumas , have to come from a half time defecite to scrapped throw, Griquas yet again sneaks out a close win against another S14 scalp, Lions.

Again , thank fuck we have CC rugby to give us a escape clause from the Bokke depression.

Also some U18 international rugby. Look like we have a very good team coming through. SA beating the Poms , sure a very good one if you take into account our lot is actuaaly a year younger compare to them , only had a week to prepare for the tour while the Poms had a unbeaten run in their 6 Nation U18 tournament. The Tin Ear, Grey Bloem, fly half Goosen, one to watch in future.

Just watched 2nd half of Blue Bulls v Free State with my boy (his first game, though he may have slept through some of it). Awesome stuff, we were both going for Free State and what a finish to the match. Thought the ref did a very good job, haven't seen many african refs but he controlled it well though could have yellowed any of the Bulls in extra time, was it 5 advantages within 5 metres of the line?
I've always liked Kabamba Floors, and again he's got so much ticker he's all over the place, also seems to have fattened up. Loosehead for Free State is a massive fridge of a man Coenie Oosthuizen. Pretty tough to stop close to the line.

Coenie is quite a talent, but we need TH fatties, overflow of LHs. This weekend the Tin Ears vs Sharks are going to be a cracker match. My money is on the Tin Ears. Despite the return of their Bokke and JP Pietersen back in action, this Tin Ear lot is on a roll now and full on confidense after the Ring won. The Sharks are their bitches anyway. Will also be interesting to see the way the Lions perform at home against a Brute side who has been ignite by their young Bokke returning and nice to see Hougaard back in 9 for them on Snors request. WP will bash the Pumas tonite at Newlands and the Biltong Boere Griquas will be to strong for the Lui Perde in Potch.

Top win by Free State; enjoyed the game. Made me jealous again of the RSA (and NZ) having a domestic comp that can be financed.

I like to watch

David Codey (61)
yeah great game, watching cantebury hawkes bay, it's also great game.
we can never compete regularly in 3N, until we have a similiar comp to these.
anyway, plenty of Rugby on the tv for a wet weekend

Great sequence of play from Canterbury leading up to the 3 pointer to give them the lead.

Just watched the second half of the Bulls Cheetahs game and even though my team lost, it was good to see the commitment of the Cheetahs. I just wish they could find an extra couple of start players in the Super 14 to be a contender for the top half. They play some solid rugby and were definitely the fitter side. Any doubts over Juan Smit can be safely locked up and put away.

Also watched bits of the Griekwas Lions match. Sarel Pretorius at 9 for Griekwas continue to impress me every time I see him. A little bit undersized but jeez he is skilful. Looking forward to seeing JP back for the Shorks.

Amen - after 3-4 years of an ARC we'd see a difference. In particular we would see better players outside of the 22 matchday players and better players in the pro academy, who could be needed during the season.

Amazing how the former Bok captain and second best hooker in RSA can't get a start in the currie cup... you'd think Snor would want to see him given a chance to justify his continued selection?

Good to see so many Boks released though

Well they all should have been released back in CC rugby. Myself get sick and tired when I hear the word burn out or tired.

Best hookers playing this weekend in order:
Liebenberg
Botha
Strauss
(All three test standard players)
Burden (solid player)

That is a LOT of wasted talent.

SA looks very thin at 13. Behind Fourie there is JdV who is not really suited to 13, and Olivier even less so. There's little obvious depth.
Players at 13 in the cc this weekend:

de Jongh (a 12 really) but will be good to see how he goes. You don't learn defense at 13 in one or two weekends so a brave man will pick him as Bok 13...
Bowles?
Louw?
Marx?
Ebersohn - looked OK for the Cheetahs but nothing flash. Uys seems quicker?
Terblanche - dear god not a 13
Waylon - was the most promising 14 in SA four or five years ago. What happened? Seems he got really badly managed by the Shorks.
Dippenaar - don't rate him. Too slow. Got outsprinted by Higginarse for fucks sake.

Not a good picture.

Left field. Bjorn Basson, a wing. Big, strong and he has deft handling skills. Threw some great passes in last weeks game. Seems to have very good hands. I like this guy. Lots.
