I think both Ah-mu and Simon Kennewell have outshone Fittock in the two matches this week.

In attack maybe, based on available chances. If you are a keen observer you would have seen how crucial Fittock was in defence, especially in game 2, shutting down a number of halfbreaks by making the right read and rushing in or making a desperate cover tackle. At one point I saw him make 3 tackles in the same phase, NZ's offloads kept the ball alive but he kept getting up and taking the next man until the ball spilled into touch.

For mine, Maddocks was Aussie's best back and hasn't recieved enough praise. Dangerous every time he touched the ball, beat the 1st man nearly every time and put Aussie on the front foot. Valuable boot as well.

Where's the nepotism sorry? Who's family are influencing selections?

I assume that means Tuttle is back in the squad, but if Sorovi is still there it seems to be a blatant case of misplaced favouritism rather than nepotism. I agree that Fowler's service was levels above Sorovi's in both games.

Maybe my use of an 'ism' is not academically correct but Gilmour and Nucifora may as well be family.

And PS...I am not related to Fowler but am an avid Brothers and Qld rugby fan.

Maclean Jones hurt his ankle in the 1st minute on Saturday. He had it heavily strapped and played on it all game but was noticeably limping. Heard he was in a moon boot after the game. Will he be fit for Manchester?

Thompson was impressed with Mason, Maddocks and Fittock in the backline, and Scott-Young and Wright in the forwards.

Thompson nominated Mason, Angus Scott-Young, Liam Wright and Jack Maddocks as his team’s best while also speaking highly of Fittock and fellow The Southport School product Josh Taylor.

“Josh has done a lot of work on his set piece,” Thompson said.

“He’s done a lot of work with Brad Thorn at the Reds and it’s getting better and better.

“And Joey is always an enthusiastic livewire … he’s got some real speed which we probably don’t have across the park.”

We've named our side (think we're the first to do so?) It's a bloody good one, I thought Elkington and Wynne missed out because they hit the age limit, not because they were injured. Good opportunity to build on the 8th placed finish from last year.

Damning for NSW, plenty of work to do.

Any suggestions re: unlucky players from those more informed than I? Any eligible Super Rugby listed players miss out?

I take it from the page beforehand that Sorovi & Fowler could be considered unlucky, but obviously Tuttle has the runs on the board and deserves the call right?

Ah-Mu & Billy miss out from Vic; that seem fair to (again) those more informed than I?

Be positive. Maybe this is just a sign of the great grass roots development work being done behind enemy lines in Victoria.

The "unlucky" ones from NSW have missed out due to Team Rehab, or being on 7s duty.

Three top notch #10s didn't make it past the Gen Blue Trial matches. At least one of them would be in Gold IMHO. Chose one of Jack Clancey, Jack McGregor & Connor O'Shea.

Guy Porter would have pushed hard for a utility back 3 gig in Gold but is also in long term Team Rehab. He may have played one Curtain Raiser Cup game. Good news is that he is U20 eligible next year.

Henry Hutchison, as a 2015 U20 incumbent goes without saying, and he also has another year of U20 eligibility left in the unlikely event that Aus 7's leave him alone.

Both Declan Moore & Latu Latinopulu were in the U20 squad but fell foul of Hugh's Law due to in camp injuries. Moore has a broken leg according to a poster (@Seymour Butts IIRC) & no indication of Latu's injury but it must be medium to long term in nature to be ruled out of Manchester.

Ciulda, shoulda, woulda, NSW numbers at Jnr RWC could be another 5 - Moore, Latinipulu, Porter, Hutchison and one of O'Shea, Clancey or McGregor.

Not just NSW lads who are unlucky, Alex Mafi is in Team Rehab for a shoulder issue according to a Gold Coast paper (via @ Happy to Chat). Some would say that Reece Hewat is there or thereabouts as well.

If those filthy Mungos hadn't struck, then the likes of Angus Crichton, Tobias Rudolf, John Walker and Tom Wright from NSW also come into the picture and several could have attracted the attention of the National selectors. Pretty sure that we have lost talent to mungoball north of the Tweed River as well as these athletes.

Little point crying over spilt milk about the lack of NSW players in the squad. The AUS squad has been named and we need to get behind them. Hugh's Law will probably claim another couple to Team Rehab as well. The Shadow squad need to stay fit, and check their passports are valid.

Good luck to the Junior Wallabies. Stick it up them.

I reckon I understand about 60% of that post HJ but thanks for the update.

That's a pretty good hit rate for one of my posts. :)

TLDR; There could have been another 5 from NSW but for injury.
Those athletes were "unlucky" not to be going to Manchester but that happens in a contact sport.

Thanks, appreciate the time and quality insight

You'd imagine that Rob will spend more time in the back row then lock, and potentially the same for Perese on the wing, but otherwise I thimk you're looking good there Hugh.
