Good fight back from QLD.

Terrible play by NSW from about 15mins onwards when it seemed they switched off which isn’t surprising given how easy they went through QLD but disappointing drop off in intensity.

Three yellow cards.

First side to at least punch back at them for a half. Hope they get a kick out of it and absolutely do a biblical job on Victoria in 2 weeks.

Victoria 31-17 victors over the Brumbies in the U16s. Brumbies led 5-17 going into HT. Similar issue to last week against the Force fading as the 2nd half wore on.

I don't want to make it seem like the young Vics weren't the better team in the end. They were. There's a few young blokes worth a scholarship to a school or two up north.

ACT is well and truly done as a consistent producer of talent and that’s not to talk down Vic who've improved vastly.

It’s a complete recruitment franchise now. They do that extremely well but it’s a much more volatile way to run a Club if NSW and QLD lock up larger numbers which they seem to be.

The shorter seasons still leave open significant recruitment opportunities. A longer super season or fully fleshed and professional third tier would really eat into their opportunities to lure guys away at higher levels. Until that happens I don't see them having too much trouble with their current model.

They should otherwise really be looking to formalize pathways from Victoria into the Brumbies while they still exist to hook into, they're most able to start absorbing that talent while it's still unaffiliated and with current success and historic links from guys like Valetini they could set themselves up as the destination of choice very quickly. It would require them investing in the pathway (or getting RA to) long term though).

It’s a lot more recruiting to do though without a local pool to developing 25% of the squad.

I see a scenario in 10 years time that the Brums have 1-2 ACT raised players in the squad at most. Who knows what the landscape will be in 10 years but if it’s the same as now.

Rugby already has a shrinking player base and it’s a shame. I’d be interested to hear ACT locals thoughts on it from the Club/Schools perspective

I think those guys are still there though, you jut don't see 25% manifest every year, it tends to be a lumpy distribution, particularly because of the effect competition has on development.

I can't speak to the local scene, but I imagine the Raiders being on a reasonably good run the last ~5 years probably hasn't helped either, but that seems to be coming to an end and talent local talent might flow back a bit.

The for them biggest issue going forward will be how they continue to set the their own standard and path while under the umbrella of RA, with no free cash and less opportunity to find it.
