so much money, I cant get my head around it. PNG is one of the most corrupt countries on the planet - so much of this money will go into the wrong hands.
I really resent this whole thing. Its completely fucking wrong and again the NRL profit from it...

Corrupt and, more concerningly, dangerous.

I watched the Union version of those games. The scrum has more or less uncontested after the first push in the first scrum. Safety first I guess but it meant that the Union side didn't get to use their full arsenal. Kind of defeated the purpose.
Also, that was at a time when Rugby was still basically amateur. Would be vastly different now - higher levels of professionalism and fitness in rugby for starters.

They don't care. The Gov don't care about the NRL side either.

They are leaning into a passion of the people in the country to maintain a geopolitical position.

- PNG public happy with and NRL side > they like the PNG Gov who got it done > Gov stays in place > Aus have a cooperative northern asset.

Don't play the game> team may be gone > public not happy > PNG Gov gone.

And this is one part of how they got there. These need to be maintained, it's not set and forget. Other countries don't just go 'oh fuck they signed a deal' let's drop that target.

If PNG don't play nice that team will be in NZ before you know it. The NRL will not lose a team and effect TV deals, fixturing.
