Tongan Schools Arrive for their three match Tour

The Velocity Trade Tongan Schools U18 team have arrived in Sydney for their 3 match tour of Australia. They have been in camp for a week prior to their arrival . The first game of the tour is against NSW Catholic Combined Colleges. This will be played on Thursday 8th September at TG Milner, Marsfield with a kick off at 1:30 pm.
On Sunday the tour party will travel to Newcastle to be billeted by the local High Schools with the game to be played on Tuesday 13 September with a 10:30am Kick off.
Upon their return to Sydney the tour party will be billeted by students of Newington College for two nights. Newington College links to Tonga go back to the 19th Century – the Founder of Newington College also founded Tupou College in Tonga. Tupou College are celebrating their 150th anniversary this year. A number of the Tongan Royal family are past students of Newington College.
The final game of the tour will be hosted by Newington College on Saturday 17 Sept at 1:00pm.
BMW Australian Schools Barbarians v Velocity Trade Tongan Schools. This will be the first time Tonga have met the Australian Schools Barbarians who have replaced the Australia A team.
The teams will compete for the Reynolds Shield – currently held by Australia. The Shield recognizes Guy Reynolds AM and his family for their long time support of schools rugby in Tonga. In 2009 he was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia Medal (AM) for services to charity. In 2010 he was awarded the Commander of the Order of the Crown, Kingdom of Tonga for services to Pacific Islands’ sports development.
