I'd expect they will be similar dates to Sydney? (15 Sept 2000 – 1 Oct 2000) Summer Olympics in winter months?
Nup. All in the same window regardless of hemisphere. It won’t be that late. Adam’s timing is pretty accurate

Dates have already been set as 23 July to 8 August, I believe it's to best integrate with NBC's broadcast schedule in the US.

Did not expect that, at least Brisbane does not have cold winters. But it's still a bit of a cop out by the IOC to have a summer games in the middle of winter.
87%ish percent of the worlds population lives in the Northern Hemisphere, so sounds fine to me?

Looking back, the Sydney games were held 15 Sept - 1 Oct. Doing a quick Google search suggests, the average day-time temperatures in Brisbane in July are identical to Sydney's September average. It's also a similar temperature average to the London when they held their games in 2012.

Is there a final decision on whether the Reds will plan any games at Ballymore once the redevelopment is complete? Surely it would be an ideal facility to host some of the smaller games at? Get some school bands playing and some food trucks with good beer and it would be absolutely fantastic.

Way too small given the membership numbers, even in the lean years. It's absolutely perfect for the return of the NRC though. Hopefully that's not just wishful thinking on my part.

Fair enough. The biggest benefit of the upgrade is financial security for the QRU, and by extension Rugby AU no longer having to spend resources shoring up a core rugby state, hopefully anyway. How are membership numbers looking this year?

Good analysis, thanks for that. Similar situation with the Rabbitohs in the NRL making more money out of ANZ stadium home games, makes sense. Hopefully our crowds build again this year so that we're regularly exceeding capacity at Ballymore and it's all a moot point. Bring on the season

Stadium negotiations in NSW are a bit more complex with different Stadiums offering different hiring agreements based on who owns them.

Queenslands major stadiums are all clean stadiums, so the hirer pays a fee for use and then retains all profits for ticket sales, food/beverage, signage and corporate.

In NSW they have a mix of clean venues and fixed price. Stadium Australia for example offers a fixed price guarantee to teams, but then retains ticket sales and food/beverage etc.

The sod has turned (politically).

The Queensland Rugby Union today began the first construction works on a Queensland Olympic venue with the $30 million Ballymore National Rugby Training Centre and new McLean Stand.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk today officially broke ground on the NRTC, which will be constructed during the next 14 months by Buildcorp.

The NRTC is the first stage of a sweeping revamp of the famous Herston site, which will include swimming and sport climbing facilities to help build the next generation of Olympic athletes in multiple sports.

The NRTC will be the new national headquarters for women’s rugby and the national Wallaroos team, as well as a new training base for the Queensland Reds men's and women’s Super Rugby teams.

The integrated 3010-capacity integrated grandstand replaces the old McLean Stand and gives Ballymore the ability to be a new home for women’s rectangular sports. The new stand will keep the McLean name, honouring one of the most famous families in Queensland rugby.

The facility will include a 700m2 elite gym, aquatic recovery centre, a 75-seat auditorium and a 120-person capacity function room and player’s lounge. The NRTC has been designed to easily move between a high-performance centre and the centrepiece of a 15,000-capacity stadium, with meeting rooms that convert into game-day suites.

As a recovering commercial builder I love the last part of that update - straight out of the Buildcorp PM's monthly report.

Surprised they didn't make them come up with some 'fun facts' like measure the piling in Suncorp goal posts or the concrete in Taniela Tupous or something similar.

QRU doing a bit of fundraising to improve the lighting of Field 1 to bring it up to modern broadcasting standards, by selling 5 Year rights to be locker patrons in the new facility for a meagre $15k each.

It’s technically a tax-deductible donation, not a sponsorship.
