zer0 gave a rundown of Sky Sports halftime ‘content’ earlier in the year;
The Sky Sports is still very much a 20th century terrestrial TV setup. Specifically it goes:

> End of half
> Obnoxious ads
> Whichever commentary wounders are on duty drone on for a few minutes to shots from the changing rooms
> Empty words from coaches to try give the sideline interviewer something to do
> Start of second half

If it's an All Blacks test they'll squeeze in another painful ad break before the start of the second half. Hopefully it'll be the end of this punishing setup if/when NZR setup their own streaming service.

Is it more obvious watching on Stan because they don't show traditional ads so instead you get a four minute highlights package of something (soccer) which makes it feel like it goes on forever.

The obvious answer is for them to produce their own half time package but likewise, I'm not sure it's the value add to make it more important than adding other content etc.

The cost of the production for just a live stream would not be worth it... far simpler just to promote other content.

Couple of tweaks that would make things better
- One channel that rolls one game into the next. Make it like an episode of the usual tv shows or something like that.
- The shorts for one round to also be played like this (just the next episode comes on) so that I can press play once and see the entire round of Shute Shield (or QPR or SRP (Super Rugby Pacific)) without going into every single one

Do we have any viewer figures for this year? Was it improved on last year or was it worse off? I have a feeling there might have been diminishing returns on last year given the relative lack of promotion.

You barely even noticed it in the SMH, where you got the odd Tah article and that was about it.

Can our Kiwi based fans confirm whether or not they get coverage on Stan during the 10 min HT break?
Here on the Pitcairns they'll cut to the 3 talking heads pitchside for a couple of mins, then play the jingle, then radio silence for 5 -10 mins as we switch to an end on camera shot of the subs dicking around on the field. Then a minute or two before half resumes the talking heads will come back to try and over-enthusiastically pump up the tyres on their dying spectacle of a sporting endeavor and away we go again.

Halftime is way better on here. If Aus side is losing to kiwi side you'll get:

Derps and Adam84: "this comp sucks why are we even playing these fucken pricks, way to kill the sport in straya fluffybunnyz"
Shiggins: "kiwi pricks all coming in from the side, no YC from ref, this is a joke"
I am warming to DP and Zero as the specialist rugby review talent.
Where do the producers stand on profanities?

Bear in mind, every 5th word I say will be a suffixed derivative of the word "shart". "Shartfaced", "Shartcocked" etc etc

Much prefer the silent "we're on a break now", I don't know why they can't keep that instead of the same highlights over and over.

so i did some digging around yesterday in the FTA tv ratings. they cut them into main channel and multi-channel (which is where SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) is shown).

the reports only show the top 20 on any one night. the minimum audience required to make it to 20th spot is anywhere between 66k and 88k - depending on the week.

only two games of SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) made it into a weeks top 20. that was Reds v Canes with 96k (easter weekend and ranked about 10th-12th) and Brumbies semi final with 71k (20th spot).

There were a couple more at least, one was a Rebels game

This is all without Stan yeah?
correct. just FTA. the ratings agency does produce a top 20 for subscription tv, but i believe Stan doesn't share its data. its basically a list of the top 20 foxtel programs - fox is the only subscription service that supplies data as far as I know.

You can ask the guys from TV Black Box for ratings and they get back to you pretty quickly, I did that a couple of times this season, but I did not want to be a pest. A couple of games came just under that "Top 20"

yeah assuming the reds seem to be the biggest viewership - you'd think the reds v tahs and reds v ponies games would hit the top 20. but the week of the reds v tahs, the 20th spot had roughly 100k viewers. that probably kept those games out.

i'm assuming qlders are tight arses and thats why they get the best FTA ratings ;)
