Steven Hoiles was good in the time he was on. Mark Chisolm consistently made .25 of a metre over the gain line each carry. Git's was OK, but Kafes gushing man love in the interview at the end was perhaps a bit premature. He has so far been the the second best 10 of all the Australian teams who have played so far this round, with the likelihood of being the 4th best by the time it's finished

Also of note in the game was the very static set up of the Brumbie attempts at maul. There was no dynamism to this facet of their play and hence they got the "That's Once/Use it" call without the maul having moved at all. Contrast to the Tahs, Saders and Blues again.
The one aspect of their game that was very effective is the short offload game, but I wonder how effective that will be against very strong defences like the Tahs and Saders where the first carrier is getting hit on the gain line. This tactic may have looked so effective because of the easy metres the chiefs concede one and two off the ruck. Some things are consistant and that weakness has been in the chiefs for a long time.

They did OK. Salvi was good - but he has earned plenty of praise round here before. Palmer good at scrum, Ma'afu not. Chisolm Ok but did less than hoped with ball in hand - he hits, well, soft at times it seems. I would prefer to see To'omua at 10 too, Gits at 12.
Coleman showed plenty of promise, McCabe was industrious, Valentine good early then faded a bit.
A rusty looking Brumbies win, but a win nonetheless.
Geez, Chiefs supporters would almost want to poke out their own eyes with their ability to produce nothing out of something repeatedly. Nanai-Williams and Spencer - an apt analogy perhaps!!

I thought he was good. Strong in contact, got over the gain line and has a nice offload. Solid debut.

Pretty good debut. Made metres, with his carries and made his tackles, can't ask much more. The key for him will be developing that combination with Salvi and Chapman. The issue will be if the coaches give him enough time to do so with Hoiles back and Elsom healing? Backrow was pretty good but the chiefs were very disjointed as they can be so often. It will be interesting to see them against a good defence.

Giteau did look sharper to me than he has for years Hawko, but again we see that he isn't a 10. How many times did the attack die because he stepped back to the traffic and got himself tied up in the ruck leaving no playmaker. A big contrast to how Carter, Barnes and Brett played with success. Also Giteau seemd pretty ineffective defending at 10 at times and Coleman led the defensive line forward. Giteau has to play 12, if he doesn't and the Wallabies were piked on form he wouldn't make the squad.

Would love to see the tackle count for Ita Vaea - he played a solid game and controlled the back of the scrum skillfully. To all the young fellows that made their debut "damn job well done"

very disappointed with the brumbies tonight. forwards didn't work hard enough to get the backs clean ball and lost their displine in the second half. But they got points against what will be one of better teams in the comp.

Very impressive first hit up by an almost full strength squad - I am now very nervous about how the Tahs will go against them. Some of the younger players stepped up to the mark well and Dan Palmer must be giving Robbie Deans food for thought (especially after his beloved Ma'afu gave away some penalties).

What we saw from the chiefs tonight has been standard fare from them for years. Great if erratic in attack, big one up defenders, but lacking in combination.
