Strong performance today. Looked very slick.

They will be much better when their centres are back. You add Hardaker, Towns, Murphy, Rogers-Smith, Molloy and Wright for the full game and you have a team that has a lot of potential.

Hopefully they don't get ahead of themselves though. View were down on backline firepower as well.

Round 2 will be a much tougher hit out.

I want to see Waverley full-strength ... reckon they will be pretty hard to beat

my theory is the way you pick a rugby team, is you pick the biggest bunch of thugs (i know it's schoolboys ... so maybe replace thugs with some more politically palatable word ... lumps of lad), that would go great in a brawl, and then add in a few pretty boys who are skillful and would be picking up the girls during the same said brawl (or skirmish for the PC Nazis)

and then you get them all being good mates, and playing for one another, and the rest isn't that difficult ... couple of good coaches ... and off you go

anyway looking forward to Waverley when they are full strength and they are matching up to one of the GPS heavy-weights ...also full strength

How many firsts players?

They did appear to have their forward pack out there.

Fair enough, were they all 1st 15 players, waves had about 6 out.

Think round 2 both at full strength should be a cracker!

How do you think view will go this year in the GPS comp, and who are the strongest teams in the GPS comp?

I wandered up to Barker with enthusiasm to see whether the solid performances against Stannies were just a one off, or whether Barkers Rugby program was indeed on the up.

I can happily report the later, with Baker winning the 16As, 2nds & 1sts.

Oakhill struggled defensively in all three games, but I would like to mention 2 players from Oakhill's 2nd XV who were standouts, Harrison Kris (No4) and Tyler Puletua (no 6). Despite playing in a losing side and these two lads ran strong all day and really tested the Barker defensive line. No doubt they will get game time in the 1sts soon for Oakhill.

The 1st XV game was a nice sight for Barker supporters. The Forwards won their own ball and were committed at the tackle. The backs were much slicker and refined than this time last year and were scoring tries.

Oakhill were found wanting defensively and a bit of ill-discipline saw 2 of their player see yellow cards, in which time Barker piled on 3 tries.

Standouts in the forwards for Barker were Sam Chalmers (No1) who scrummaged well and proved very damaging with ball in hand. Weymouth (no 5) who was clinical in the lineouts (Barkers achilles heel in recent times) and scored a good try under the posts. Flaherty (17, 2nd row) provided a real big engine in the scum when he came on in the 2nd half and just moved rucks with his bulk. Reimer (no 8 and capt) who lead the team with pride and put in a man of the match performance with 3 tries.

In the backs Tejcek (9) and Dudley (10, combined ok, but it was the outside backs that really shone with wingers Galloway (14 & yr 10) and Bryden (11) showing plenty of toe and scoring a try each, and centres Harding and Van Woerkem straightening the attack and solid in defense.

With noted speedsters Lloyd playing the 2nd half, Barker has some depth in the backs should injuries strike.

One area that needs urgent attention is the kicking duties. Barker only converted 3 of the 8 tries they scored. Not good enough if you want to threaten the likes of Waverley and Knox.

3rd place in the CAS comp is a definite possibility.

With only the one round of CAS games, and playing Knox at Knox, Barker is going to have to play the game of their life to beat the red Hot Waverley lads at Hornsby this year.

Strong performance today. Looked very slick, very fit and very well coached.

I wouldn't take too much away from it. View had their entire backline down at the Scots 7's along with a few handy forwards. At least hold judgement until next time they meet.

View will be strong, I'd say definitely a top three finish. Scots will be a force this year especially their backs who were electric today at the 7's. I think Shore will surprise a few people and challenge the heavy weights.

What are Cranbrook, Aloys, Barker and Trinity doing for the first five trial fixtures?

Fair call H,

Yep a rematch at view will be tremendous.
I think you we will find the few GPS and CAS match ups are refreshing and great games.

Hope all teams are injury free.

I think 5 of the starting 8 View pack were there so a fair representation. Waverely were a class above......well organised across the field and dominiated every aspect of the game. No doubt will be 2 x different teams playing when they meet again in May but the Wav boys will go in full of confidence.

I gather Waverley also beat view 30-12 in 2nds, and drew19-19 in 3rds

Also understand they are playing southport on wed 5th... presumably a 3:40ish kick-off

It is a real shame Waverley isn't playing scots in 2017, as would like to see a hardaker/Cornish match up to Yasmin/smith/savala

Certainly agree SDW,

We all know many of the scots boys and parents as we play club with them, socialise with them etc. A local derby, like Cranbrook.

I don't understand why, our firsts and seconds played them last year.

Not sure who will be in our centres, I would have thought hardaker and max towns but Cornish was great yesterday, very strong, maybe he will fit in somewhere else. The coaches have some great options.

Must admit our coaches are just so impressive, yesterday's game was the most impressive 1st hit out I have seen. They were a super slick and powerful side.

Certainly it will be a different view side next time but had we kicked more of our goals, it could have been 80+ and the view side wasn't that poor, at times they looked well drilled.

Some of our forwards must be a big chance for top rep honours this year, I know you know who I mean, some of our backs also.

Can't wait for all of the games but particularly joeys at joeys and kings at Kings and view at view!

Barker had an absolutely gold class performance against Oakhil on Saturday winning 51-5. Having watched schoolboy rugby for many years now, i have no doubt this barker team will knock off every CAS school if they keep their standards high. Luke Reimer (c) had a star performance scoring 3 tries, He is a true unstoppable force.

As much as I bleed Red, Barker has plenty of work to do before they come close to Waverley or Knox. Barker has improved markedly from last year but I would not be making any bold predictions at this point in the season....

Just having a bit of a yarn @rodskillet, I'm sure most barker boys would agree that there is huge room for improvement. However as far as bold predictions go, my money is still on the boys in Red.

I truly hope your prediction comes true.. it is a pity they only play each CAS school once. The home ground advantage will come into play

Looking forward to a competitive comp this year, the boys seem to be ripping in! Keen to see a juggernaut Knox be tested by Waverley and the other CAS teams.
