Ireland v Wallabies, Saturday 15/11 (Sunday morning Aus time)

Hooper's commentary was insufferable! All he did was give his old teammates back scratches all day!
I particularly like when highly paid "experts" impart their knowledge on the viewers, especially when it is something we could not work out.

A memorable one from this game was when we had a lineout near the Irish line after penalty and Hooper explained for the lay person that the Wallabies would be looking to get 7 points, or at least 3. Who would have thought a team would want to score points?????

Yes... Stan commentary is pretty average. Horan talks up favourites. Hooper waffles on saying nothing that we don't already know. Not popular but do like Harrison. Morgan is the best. Cameron Shepherd isn't bad either. They dumped Matt Rogers .. he was good too. We need Gordon Bray back to call the games!

He raises some good points:
- LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), Ross, and Donaldson should have gotten more opportunities and there were selection errors in the Lions first test (e.g. not starting Pollard, Hooper and Pietsch)

but a lot of those points were silly
- no way should have Korobiete, Beale, Foley, Uru, Samu, Swain etc. been in the side
Yeah he's just naming players for the sake of naming players. It's a pointless argument that even a casual fan should be able to pick apart.

Almost every single one of them have had a chance in gold at some stage in the last decade and haven't been the secret sauce we've been missing.

"Depth" is probably the wrong word. We have heaps of guys who can play positions - none that can confidently claim to be world class.

^^^ BTW if anyone here still thinks we need to cut another team to create better results, I recommend looking up "correlation vs causation"

And it get's worse from here. The 5 -> 4 sugar-hit is settling back to salary cap and budget restraints. Let's not rinse and repeat.

Dru how does our base salary compare internationally as opposed to bonuses etc? Are our guys too comfortable on a salary.

Yeah, nah...

There seems to be some small collective amnesia as to where LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) sat in the pecking order in the last year, and I don't see how the other two would've had more opportunities at the expense of...?

As mentioned above, Doran's retort to the argument of depth is just to wildly list a bunch of players, most of whom are no better to the ones that have been rolled out.

The Australian way I’m guessing.

I don't care who it is, as long as its not Greg Clarke.

I'm going to guess the moment we start trying to sign players on lower salaries with high performance bonuses, we start to see an acceleration of talent hopping on planes.
You could be right, but depends on how others structure their payments, and that is what I was asking Dru.

Also how much more of our talent are we talking about? MOst of our top talent goes OS anyway? Is SA's way a better way??????

Guys who won't bet on their potential are passengers on a socialist govt handout structure.

I wouldn't suggest that our salaries are over the top. The issue is about how much income we generate. Pfitzy mentioned earlier about needing a broader base in order to achieve a higher peak. That works for me. Super Rugby has not achieved what is required and this "top down" approach is always going to limit income possibilities.

Agree, I would be happier IF we had talent scouts pulling guys with talent out of Shute and Hospital comps. This reliance on Super Rugby only is stupid and narrow minded, like a fair bit of RU. Which brings up another point on my compass: we must have lousy talent scouts and coaches who can't ID talent.
