Wow! That's disappointing. I wonder if St Augustines advised Joeys that was the case at the time & if all the games will still go ahead in the higher grades?

I won't really be surprised if there is a cancellation somewhere in case of injury, mismatch etc - if so, not sure how Joeys would be able to find a meaningful replacement game at this late stage.

This was being marked down as one of Joeys harder trials and I know our 15s were well beaten a few years ago so it seems a shame.

Of course, a second string side might still be a challenge - if it is, Joeys maybe in for a long year (with no disrespect to those that have to step up who didn't go to Japan).

St Augustine's tend to drop away after the 1st XV as they only go down to 3rds. You'd have to assume that all of the 1sts squad and at least half of the seconds team would be on tour.

If so an amalgam of St Augs 2nds and 3rds would be about the level of the Joeys 5ths/6ths.

Pretty embarrassing effort from St Augustines deciding to go to Japan presumably after the draw then unless there is some explanation for the poor communication. The supposed benefits of the one round comps and trials for schoolboy selections must surely be seen as a joke. Does anyone know how this occurred and whether Joeys have secured another trial of some sort in the top 2 grades? As I said, disappointing as it would have been a good guide as to where both are at this year albeit relatively early in the season.

I suspect you will find that everyone who needs to know knew Auggies would be at Sanix. Joeys will play lower age groups but not seniors.

I don’t think so. The Joeys coaches were unaware as of 2 or 3 weeks ago and are not very impressed. They have not been able to find a replacement trial so there has been a stuff up by someone. I’m sure it wasn’t intended but questions will be asked no doubt how this occurred from both sides.

I know SPC are playing local rivals Trinity at Breen. Sure to be a great match but I suspect the 1s will be rusty considering they only got back from North America on Sunday.

While I haven't seen them play too many times the boys from SPC are shaping up to be a lot more physical and aggressive this year, especially in the forwards. They have got some size now (something that has been lacking in previous years) that should allow for some good contests to come. They have had a successful tour of North America and are now looking to be competitive in these pre-ISA trails and in the ISA itself.

With a good mix of experienced 1sts players as well as some new, enthusiastic blood, I can see this team causing a few of the stronger teams a bit of trouble as the season progresses.

Historically, lack of genuine beef has always been an issue for Pats. The years where they managed to get some big boppers running around in 1sts generally saw them beating far more fancied rivals.

That is not correct. I have spoken to the coaches themselves who had no idea and have been scrambling to find a replacement trial which has been impossible. So, if they had been advised last year they would have had more time to fix it and it wouldn't have been on the schedule in the first place.

Ridiculously, with no alternatives Joeys 1st XV is now holding a training session on Saturday having just gotten back from a week's camp in Dubbo.

I think what makes it worse (which is a Joeys issue not St Augs), is the fact that all other GPS schools have been playing games (at least 3-4) over the holidays whereas Joeys hasn't. In my opinion, this is an error of judgement in our schedule in the lead up to the comp.

With all that said, it what it is it is now and who knows, when the season's over we might look back at missing this game as a masterstroke.

I couldn't agree more. Hopefully, they provide the go-forward they need to move up the field.

Yep, they are contesting the Black & Green Shield - unlike previous years there will be no games in Tennis or Soccer so it will be all up to the Rugby in order to retain it. Should be interesting!

if Joeys didn't speak to the people who are in charge of putting this together or they didn't speak to Joeys that is not Auggies fault.. Auggies and most people with rugby knowledge knew nearly 12 months ago that Auggies would be at Sanix.
Try a bit of praise for their efforts in SANIX rather than this negative incorrect material
