OJ Noa has been found not guilty of a shoulder charge after being red carded late in the game against Wests. The judicial committee found that there was an accidental clash of heads and the tackle was not a “shoulder charging tackle”.

The latter part of the decision is mind boggling as it was a textbook shoulder charge.

Wow! That is unbelievable! What a result. At what stage do we start looking at Easts as a top 4 team? They would be coming first now as the only undefeated team. Cornforth is a genius! I bet he enjoyed that one. Any match report?? Genuine win or did Royals have 6 sent off in the first 3 minutes?

I went out to Campese Saturday.

I watched the last 5 minutes of 2nd grade. I was told tuggeranong at one point were up 24 -7 and ended up losing the game 24 - 38 so must have been a really impressive comeback from the whites!

1st grade in my view was never really a contest Tuggeranong scored early and the whites didn't really look in the game from that point on. OJ Noa was very quiet (perhaps a bit sheepish after last weekends incident), Goddard looked like the young fly half that he is and certainly needs more time to develop. White was solid (as always) at scrumhalf as was Penca. I thought Chalker looked a bit more tentative than usual opting to kick the ball away a lot.

Going into the game i thought tuggeranong were in for a long day, with all the injuries and players moving onto higher honors (Aus 20s and Brumbies) there were a lot of players out and lots of changes. From the get go they showed much more intent than the previous week and were rewarded early and continued to apply scoreboard pressure throughout the game.

Lolesio looked solid in the 10 jumper, also a young fly half but looked pretty confident on saturday. Henderson was impressive making meters every time he got the ball. Vikings pack was really solid. Even with a man down and a replacement prop they were able to hold off the whites scrum on their own 5 meter line. A really impressive response from last week, particularly when you consider the whites were undefeated.

Also absolutely stoked the Easts! I know I picked them to lose by 20 but I've never been happier to be wrong. What a start to the year for them.

I'm a big fan of Royals, and, though we should have really put Easts to the sword, I'm impressed by how they played. The warning signs were there for us against Vikings in round one, and we haven't acted to fix those issues. However, Tim Cornforth has done wonders with Easts and I hope to see this resurgence continue!

Edit: Literally just got asked if Muirhead being over in Bruce changed things. Not really, and I think all Royals fans are happy to see him involved in the Brumbies.

Everyone was talking up Royals as dead certs before the season started but I had doubts about the number of first grade regulars from 2017 who will be caught up with Brumbies/Tahs this year. Didn't realise a solid chunk of fringe players headed East this year. That has to leave big holes in the depth. Where do you see them sitting mate? Has Southey recruited well or are they still down in a few positions?

The only difference in personnel between the team that lost to Easts and the one that beat Vikes and Gungahlin is Ben Brown in at 10 in place of Matt Cole. We've lost five of the starters in last year's final to Super teams (Sione, McInerney, Staniforth, Cussack, and Muirhead), and Johnston is out injured. Realistically, our issue isn't in the forwards (though that's where a lot of the changes have happened, so props to Southwell for recruiting well), but the loss of key guys like Muirhead and Johnston along with the cogs of Bodman and Swain in the backline. Without them, our low possession, kicking/counter attacking game just doesn't work.

Where has Jamie Bodman gone? He was very handy for a skinny dude. Is he out injured or has he moved on?

I haven't seen him around the grounds, but that doesn't tell us anything! I haven't really had the inside scoop at Royals since Russ Ingram left :(
Bodman came through the same age group Tom Staniforth, Jake Gordon, Andrew Robinson, Connall McInerney, and Joe Powell, and was recognised as one of the better in the group at the time! A bit of an AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)-lite, you could put him anywhere in the backline but the halves, and definitely with potential. Hope he's still around.
