I am totally on board with players playing for other countries however they qualify. We live in a globalized world and people move for opportunity.

That said, this is absolutely something we should have a bit of fun with, particularly as it has clearly struck a nerve.

The Guardian piece took a lot of licence from a couple of very bland comments from Tuipulotu to say that he was annoyed etc.

All the banter to the side, its a great year of rugby and the northern hemisphere top players being in Australia playing these Lions games with the increased media, will be great for rugby in Australia leading into the rugby world cup. There is a lot of talk on all platforms about players going OS and or end up playing for other countries. Sadly with so few opportunities in Australia to play at that top level, we will have more and more pathways develop into other rugby programs OS in the coming years. So I don't hold it against any player to follow their dream and adventure out of Australia especially to Europe to play the game at the highest level they can achieve. Better than losing them to the NRL who are trying to steal all of our schoolboy up to u20s talent!

Nah, say it as I see it ozzie rugby fanatic from nsw! Sadly to many young players choosing to go abroad early in their rugby career (France, Scotland, England & Japan to name a few) or who become lost into the growing NRL machine, because there are limited opportunities transitioning to elite/professional level outside Sydney & Brisbane where the comps are strongest. We still have work to do on our pathway programs in oz and in offering more opportunities for high level game exposure.

Yep while not liking to see young players going overseas, can kind of understand it. Outside of rugby even, look how many young people do the OE for a couple of years, I think a change of lifestyle helps, and with so many grades of semi and fully pro rugby for players must be really attractive. I coached a team of kids in Levin in NZ, where 4 of them eventually played semi pro in NH while enjoying the different lifestyle. Had a nephew who went over as well. and know quite a number , just from a little place like that who went.
I agree pathways help, but not all kids see making it as a pro player in SH, so perhaps go overseas and some actually develop a little later and do well over there in bigger pro set ups?
