I see Joeys have (at last) decided they should look at the 16s for their opens trials which is something they have rarely done in the past unless a player was an absolute standout. Even then they didn't get a trial but the odd one was asked to alternate between 16s & Opens (e.g. Tom Wright) throughout the season where injuries prevailed.

Looking at the 2nds team last Saturday I have rarely seen so many Year 10 & 11s in an Open team for Joeys albeit a trial.

This is an area where other schools have not been frightened of exploring (Scots, Newington, Riverview especially) & the experience hasn't hurt them when coming into the Opens. Certainly not the reason why Joeys hasn't been able to win the comp for so long but a step in the right direction.

Might be a shame for the 16s comp but then it also gives other kids coming through an opportunity to shine at 16As level so pros & cons.

Jim, we just came back from the 12 year old annual rugby carnival at TAS.

45 teams from NSW and QLD.

As you know this major event showcases the best juniors from a multitude of schools, and rep teams.

The weather was superb, thank ...., and as usual the TAS grounds, parent volunteers, and organisation was beyond good.

Over 900 boys, and some girls, played with almost twice as many parents watching, clearly the area did extremely well, so everyone was a winner!

Wonderful school and event.

Thank you for this, White line fever. Really appreciated. Its quite a carnival now.

Wide spread of participants. According to the school Facebook page, Moree Junior Bulls won Team of Carnival, Southern Districts were winners in Division 1-2, St Ignatius College Blue in Division 3, Kings Division 4, Gordon Tartans Division 5. Congratulations to all!

At TAS in div 1-2 Gordon beat Southern in the pool rounds but succumbed in the final to a bigger more physical Southern D side; in div 3 Riverview were impressive in beating Cranbrook by some margin. I didn't see or hear about the other finals. The whole tournament was superbly organised. TAS and the town of Armidale should be very proud of this event.

So I guess that means you are backing Knox to beat all challengers given they have 350 -400 plus in year 12 ......... I think not .......
