you are kidding.

Interesting family BBQ's, they must flip a coin to see who says Grace.

Not kidding. The Sydney diocese of the Anglican church is different from the rest of the Church in Australia, people are promoted and/or appointed these days on the basis of religious affiliation first and foremost.

What’s happening with the U16s NSW schools side. Apparently a few Riverview boys have pulled out, making selections difficult

OK, how about sticking to talking about rugby, hmmm?

Hello Cyclopath

Unfortunately, Cyclopath, the Nature of some Anglican Schools is now directly connected to Rugby and impacts upon our game at a schoolboy level. As elements within the Anglican Church, would prefer to select a good Anglican who attends Church, as opposed to a well qualified and experienced teachers who can coach Rugby. The result is unmotivated teachers who couldn't coach a fish to swim.

Or even worse, no longer promote the game within Rugby playing schools. The concept of Muscular Christianity has given way to teacher's who are neither interested or care about a holistic education involving sport, particularly Rugby. Compare this with the Catholic schools, where the demise of Rugby is less apparent if it occurs at all, despite the introduction of greater choices in sport.

Equally, the non-conformist schools such as Newington and Scots, once below the standing of Shore and Kings as Rugby Schools, are well ahead particular Scots and to a lesser degree, Newington. Although, Newington's strength lies in its A teams where quality coaching by two former Wallabies has made a world of difference. These coaches were selected not on their religious zeal. But their professionalism as Rugby Coaches. Equally the Scots Rugby program is one of the most professional on offer and Scots now dominate across most grades. No religious zealots there either.

Quiet, simply the attitude of the Anglican Church is critical to our game, together with its impact at a grassroots level.

Well said.
I would add that the GPS and CAS schools are independent and make their own individual decisions about an emphasis on rugby. Or even the place of sport in the whole picture of education at their schools.
Most of us who post here are rugby-centric but schools have a bigger picture to concentrate on, including academic and pastoral matters.

But I speak to the converted.

I don't care. Talk about rugby, not religious school politics. It's simple.

Meanwhile, Newington 15s have just departed on a rugby and service learning tour to Tonga. Two games of rugby and the boys will also be fencing the school farm to keep the pigs out. Tupou College is largely self-sufficient so the boys there eat what they grow most of the time. A shipping container with fencing wire and other equipment donated by the Newington community went over in advance. Even some of Joker's delicacies from SJC 1970s would pass as gormet food. Great experience ahead for the boys.

Newington has also been sending teachers over to assist with the academic side of things there and they now follow the NSW curriculum in Maths and English.
