Full Time at Kings

Kings 32 def Newington 12

Well done to Kings on a tradesman like display of the fundamentals and proved too good. A view young Newington team have a steep learning curve ahead.

Kings had Australia's highest played ball boy running the kicking tee.;) Great school spirit.

Good to see the game clock up to its old tricks at hunters Hill . Clearly it was a trial because the sprinklers did not go off

The clock at HH is a unique timepiece. At various times it seems to go quicker than a normal clock - often when the locals are defending a small lead, while on other occasions is seems to go slowly, stop or disappear - these seem to occur when the lads in cerise and blue are pounding the opposition line and chasing a famous come from behind victory.

An unknown Marist Brother operating the clock mechanism at HH ;)

Watched the whole view game, view far too strong, probably could’ve piled on some more points with a bit more ball security, shore looked out muscled and out skilled.

Caught the second half of the Joeys scots game and from what I could tell, scots were unreal in attack, moving the ball from side to side with great effectiveness, however joeys matched Up in defence (as they always do) and only let the scots third try in after multitudes of phases.

Thoughts?

Joeys backs much smaller than the Scots boys - Year 10 boy (Max Jorgensen, son of Peter) playing OC marking monster Josh Wong who is a very good and dangerous player. He was the MOM for mine, outshining the much-hyped fullback Kalokalo who has recently signed up to the dark side. But gutsy performance in defence from Joeys in the backs, and some very good phases.
Joeys lost their 10 mid-way in the 2nd half - popped shoulder - which caused some disruption. Going for an MRI and may be OK if no damage. Ollie Cummins (also Yr10) looked impressive, playing at 9, 10 and 15 during the 2nd half. He plays hooker in league and looks it.

H,

Absolute decimation and ferocity by View, however, couple niggles and injuries in the lower teams.

Kiyan Jahromi 4th XV - Hyperextended knee
Angus Dougall 4th XV - Shoulder injury

Nevertheless they did play a thirds team and came away with a win.

Personally, good day for the wolves.

Looking very strong coming into the big dance next weekend....

Joker, it’s H

As the timeless Syrian proverb states: “it only hurts because of the pain”

From what I saw today, View will be up for it. They can’t be underestimated or joeys may go home with a disappointed fan base (joker).

View boys are known to be the toughest breed of schoolboys in the competition and have the skills to back it up this season.

Should be a contest for the ages.

After watching the Joeys Scots game, from what i see, Scots was the much better side. Defensively quite strong missing very few tackles and when they had the ball, moved it very well across the field in all parts. Joeys defended strongly but you could tell their last 15 minutes weren't as fit and mobile as the Scots outfit. Will be interesting to see how both move forwards. Was Scots game for the last 10 minutes and a little lapse lost them the game, the good sides will do that to you but Scots IMHO were and are the better side moving forwards. Strong contenders if they keep that up to take return the premiership to Bellevue Hill this year.
Not sure how you reached the conclusion that Scots were the much better side. Joeys had more possession, more territory, spent more time in Scots' 22 and created more scoring opportunities but came up with more errors at critical times. They also played a more structured game: good yards up the middle, consistently over the gain line, good post-contact metres especially from their big props, and only then going wide.

By sharp contrast Scots tended to go wide very early, often off first & second phase trying to give space to their big out-centre & fullback, both big, strong units. They had their best period in the 3rd quarter when they had a lot of ball & field position but that was really the only period of the game they dominated.

Joeys have a bigger pack than last year, especially the front row, and they were blowing pretty hard after an hour. Scots would have done better to keep it tighter at that point to take advantage of a more mobile pack - just as Joeys did last year when they won a lot of games in the last quarter with a much smaller but very fit pack - but Scots still preferred to go wide at nearly every opportunity. Surprising Joeys didn't sub off their props, both of whom got through a load of work, but they were still there at the end. Likely the coaching team decided to build up their match fitness as they're a couple of big lads.

To say it was Scots game for the last 10 minutes and 'a little lapse cost them the game' is a strange call. In that period Joeys had almost all the possession and it was played mostly in Scots' half. The 'little lapse' was actually a 20-phase Joeys effort that went from a line out just outside their 22 and finished with the winning try. I thought they were very good value for the win especially having lost their playmaker, who was having a great game, shortly after halftime.

Agree with you Ned.
The Joe 1sts backs looked slick. Antico going off injured was a big disruption to the flow. Let’s hope it’s a flesh wound and we will see him back on the paddock soon. Quality #10....and I’m not just saying that because he’s in the cerise...

That would be great news. Looked a potentially season-ending injury. He was having a whale of a game to that point. Fingers crossed.
