From what I saw in todays 1st XV fixture Riverview were, like I said, very unlucky with a lot of calls. To my knowledge the referee who officiated todays game is a Shute Shield referee. There was a lot of controversy around the way in which he officiated the breakdown in that View were unlucky to be at the receiving end. There was also a disallowed try in the corner to the Riverview winger which appeared to be a try which could’ve been a game changer.
Kings played great rugby and deserved the win. Overall a great game though.
View spend their game with hands on the ground near the ball, instead of the ball. A great tactic, but a good ref will pick it up and rightfully penalise it.

Kings late lineup

1. Nick ashdown
2. Baiely Park
3. Nate titi
4. Edwin langi
5. Hamish barber
6. Peter m
7. Austin dubriage
8. Fraser wait (captain)
9. Lachlan smith
10. Sam McLachlan
11. Tyrese Lokeni
12. Boston fakafunu
13. Tom watts
14. Hadely tonga
15. Luke maroun
19. issac fonua

(Edwin langi played majority of the game at prop due to Nate being injured in first 4 mins.)

(issac fonua played majority of the game at second row, due to Nate titi being injured in the first 4 mins pushing Edwin to prop.)

Special mention to Issac - imo he needs to be in the ‘team of the week’ he was outstanding. Playing a full game in the 2nds prior then playing almost another full game in the 1s is a big ask for a year 10.
Pretty handy having a lock who can also be a scrummaging specialist…

Three rounds in and only one blowout game (Kings-Shore Round 1). Every other game has been up for grabs with 5 or 10mins to go so far this season. Terrific comp so far! Kings just a bit above everyone else when it has mattered so far..

Thought i'd give a go of the GPS 1st and GPS 2nd XV backlines after round 3

1st XV
9. Hwi Sharples
10. Joe Dillon
11. Hadley Tonga
12. Boston Fakafunu or Oscar Jorgensen (both are very easily interchangeable)
13. Liam Grover
14. Casey McLean
15. Tom Klem

2nd XV
9. Lachlan Smith
10. Sam McLachlan
11. Tom Farr Jones
12. Boston Fakafunu or Oscar Jorgensen (as stated prior)
13. Leo Jacques
14. Talis McEwen
15. Toby Rodwell

Few honorable mentions: Zach Fittler, Hugo Orpin, Patrick Boe, Caleb Murphy, Matteo Cleverly, Matt Humphries, Nick Newton, Tyrese Lokeni. Very stacked team.

Where’s the Joker???

Must be having a Power Nap after a long day of rugby and a full tummy from the rowers BBQ @ HH???

in all seriousness old mate, commiseration on today’s result. I can’t remember the last time Newington beat Joeys at home.

I am not one to bag the referee as I too referee but I thought he was abysmal. One player should have been red carded for a lifting tackle and not even a penalty. Could not keep up with the play and the breakdown rule was thrown away. Disappointing as I too thought it was much closer than the scoreline shows.
Always blaming the ref.

Good summary of the 1sts game dribble.

I thought Kings vs View lived up to the expectations and played out as many had predicted. Views defence against bigger opponents was outstanding in the forwards. As the game went on the View forwards fitness seemed to allow them to win quite a lot of breakdown penalties (pilfers). The bigger Kings forwards were half a second late to the breakdown later in the game, and the view boys took advantage.
Criticising the ref seems way off the mark. I thought he was excellent at the breakdown and I’m sure View won more penalties than they lost at the breakdown.
I feel Kings at their best are the best side in the competition. They just can’t maintain their best for the whole match.
Boston F was comfortably my best for the day.
So strong in contact and makes something out of nothing often. Kings would not have won without him.

I think the View 14 deserves a mention for the job he did marking up on Tonga, never an easy task, but he did very well.
Not sure what the idea was with the Kings backline positions which changed quite a bit throughout the match. Boston played at fullback, centre and 10 at different periods. As did McLachlan. I don’t know that this helped their structure, particularly in defence.

A great day at the JS White oval with a fair outcome.

Absolutely cracking day for rugby today at North Parramatta. Unfortunately View after some very early wins could not finish what they started. Sorry Kings your 16a's need some work. View had nice structure and team work. Unfortunately the 4's couldn't continue with a strong performance from Kings. However the view 10 showed individual brilliance scoring the only try after running through multiple defenders.

In the 1's View looked very well drilled and played extremely well unfortunately but would say the Kings game was won by an outstanding performance from their 12. Was a little confused as it seemed like the 12 was playing 10, 10 at fullback and 15 on the wing? I think this may have thrown any form of harmony in the back line yet View seemed to defend and attack very well. The Kings loose forwards were very strong in defence and over the ball but ultimately I think it came down to individual brillance with tries to the Kings 12 and 9 that got them over the line with great individual performances to score tries. View very strong in the line outs which set them up for strong attacks but could not capitalise . Hopefully View will regroup and give the Joeys boys a lesson

Riverview vs Kings match keys:
As predicted Kings came out the gate in flying colours but to be fair the View boys they did very well and managed to keep the game very close. Again, as predicted the Kings forward pack began to die off late in the game and it was Riverview time to strike. Although they did strike well a few simple but costly errors (intercept and allowed an easy halfback run) made the deficit too hard to break. Just seemed like they went to sleep for just a second but that’s what will happen against a good side like Kings. Overall, I think both teams are clear contenders for the prem this year and I am excited to see the rematch in Lane Cove.

Ben Whatley shore #10 been outstanding thus far, his father mentioned he trained with norths colts throughout preseason. Slick hands.

looking at north colts results as of late, maybe the young fella should be playing two games a weekend to try and help them out. They have been horrific!

Nice yesterday at north parramatta to see Joseph Sua'ali'i helping out the kings 1st and 2nds boys, pre- game chats with players halftime instructions on the field, really making an impact and an experience these boys will cherish.

Also saw Joseph when speaking to younger kids introducing himself by first name ect, a real humble young man and his efforts should be noticed. Great job rugby Au for getting him back!

Fair summary although I would say it was the New 10, 12 that set them apart. Joeys will rue the missed chances. I had a flash back to Scots 87 on the intercept try…. The horror.
You were not alone there. I don't know why but you could feel it was coming. Joeys were camped on their line and a bit paniky no composure and it was the first time in the game that inside 22 defence was holding. It was as 12 point swing.

New were out on their feet at the end. The opportunity was there to put them away, but the pass went to the right with an unmarked person on the LHS. Would have been an awesome try if it came off.
