NSW AAGPS 2025 (banter and commentary)

As a Shore fan that was one of the toughest trips to Stanmore I have had in a long time. Since 2022, It seems to be a pattern of coming away with scrappy wins or getting smashed when we visit NC. Was very disappointed watching that game. Riverview at Stirling Bridge on Thursday 3:15 will without a doubt be the game of the round. The rivalry between these mighty schools has been brewing for the last couple of years in the Rugby and the Rowing. Whenever these 2 play something special always happens. Shore upset in 2023 at this exact same fixture and Bousie’s last minute heroics at the swamp in 2024 are the first games that come to mind when I think about these 2 schools. If you’re free, come down to Northbridge. This one won’t disappoint.

Dear AAGPS students, old boys, parents and supporters.

I have deliberated with many people about the future of this thread. A lot happened on Thursday which led to the situation we are in.
To begin with let’s look at some facts.

1. The CAS thread was closed after a multitude of trolls invaded. The thread was closed by Cyclopath as between the two of us we could not keep up with the moderation process.

2. These trolls then descended upon the AAGPS thread. To the credit of the regular posters, they tried to stay out of it. The trolls once more overwhelmed us and hence I shut it down.

3. Trolls then turned their attention to other threads which ended up with them being locked.

Yesterday I was resigned to the possibility that the AAGPS and CAS thread were both going to be deleted and this was the best way forward.

Throughout Saturday I meet many student members, parents and even staff who expressed their disappointment. People commented that over the past few months they had seen an improvement, mainly because the students who were there, were, following the guidelines. This is a credit to their schools, family and the maturity they show. In other words, people missed the thread and knew why it was pulled.

It was late in the day when I was approached by a small group of Kings lads who wanted to say hello. They as well expressed the disappointment and said I should carry a bigger hammer. So, with in mind, here are conditions for the next few months.

For offending posts, no warning will be given, posts deleted.
Permanent bans immediately for the poster and no chance of return.
Existing members who respond in kind to trolls will get the same treatment. Rise above the taunts.
NEW members will not be accepted till further notice.

The CAS thread is the hands of @cyclopath

The thread is open. How long is up to all of us.

Wanted to write a report for the 3rd XV comp, especially Riverview 3rd XV vs Grammar 1st XV. Tough loss for the old sgs boys, losing 28-5. I think there were a lot more positives than what the scoreline depicts. The year 12s are looking especially weak this year, so many year 11 and 10 boys are getting a good run. I think no. 12 Archie platt (Reece Lightning) should be commended for his hard running and grit on the defensive side. No 8 Howard Clayton also had a standout performance despite a pretty lackluster forward pack, so ultimately bright future for 2026.

Completely different play. Timestamp 1:00:56 right side of the screen. Shore number 12 stands up and punches Newington 17 unprovoked. No place for this in the game. Disgusting
Based on his play he might not be there - a tough day at the office but a poor game for an inexperienced 12 but also no need for a strike…..

I’d even go so far as to say this strike was much worse then that at Bellevue hill and Stanmore in round 1. The sheer malice behind the punch was something else. Us old boys were extremely unhappy.
Looking at the video it appears he has an open palm and not a fist. Don’t think the judiciary will be up in arms about this one

Ghattas was Joeys best forward but he is playing out of position, i’d play him at 2 and bring up the 7 from the 2’s. But the back row isn’t the problem, the other tight five players are a real issue, under size for this level and I would say not mobile or skilful enough to make up for it. The reason why the seconds are dominating though is a combo of a decent team and a weak seconds comp (the natural outcome of other schools development programs ). add in much better coaching in the seconds particularly in terms of man management and a clear picture forms.
spot on re tight 5. Watched the last 2 games and both New and Kings had monstrous front rows who you would expect to tire early in second half given pace of games, but didn’t. Maybe its a bit easier when running pods? in any case, they maintained decent mobility and critically, made good metres over the advantage line in their carries. Unfortunately, the Joeys front rowers, whilst courageous and hard working, were not impactful in carries. tight five also need to be better on the clean out.

hope the boys find some answers against Scots this Thurs. Was tough to see their heads down. separately, great job from the cheer captains in the Joe boys mob. Better energy and volume this round than the New fixture. Though the Kings boys cheering did their team proud as well.

assume that Kynan Hart is carrying an injury - any word when he is expected back?

Shore will get flogged.

I think Newington will blow holes in Scots. If they couldn’t match Views pack they’re in for a bad shock. View went with Newington well for 75% annd let themselves down quite a few times and clearly Joeys can knock them off. But, they are in the box seat and forming a reputation with confidence along with it which is ominous.

Kings will be interesting v New as Kings have some genuine big bodies in the pack. Don’t have the same from 10-15 but in the pack they could take it to them.
After watching the Kings forwards in action yesterday it will be a great hit out with Newington

It’s a clear strike followed by another one. But I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s unprovoked, New 17 drops the shoulder into him which would be tackling a player without the ball

Watching from the sideline it seemed that newington were targeting Wendt (12). I noticed both there 8 and 12 as well as 17 trying to get a piece of him throughout the game. However the retaliation is unnecessary regardless if it is provoked

My how things change!
16 games of rugby played (that is the extent of NC rugby playing strength), with 8 wins apiece to both E & NC. Of the games played only 5 were like matches; i.e. A v A, etc. Read into that what you will.

I think 6 games were equal match-ups (1-2 XV, 16A, B, 14A, 13A). Newington won 3 (1st XV, 2nd XV, 14A). That's against a school whose best result against Joeys all day was a draw.

What time are the games this Thursday? I have notified my lawyers that I am going to make an appearance at Scots. First time in many years. Looking forward to catching up with old friends. @Balmain Subbies please tell me you will there.
