3rd XV Round 5 Report
With two rounds to go there are only two schools who can win the 3rd XV premiership and raise the Col Windon Shield - Riverview and Joeys. Everyone else is done for the season. Wins by the two leaders in Round 5 put them four points clear at the top. They meet in the final round at Hunters Hill, so not even an unlikely loss next week will change the premiership picture. After five rounds the table looks like this:

Kings, TAS 6
Scots, Shore 4
Grammar, High 0
Riverview 24 d Scots 7
In terrible conditions on Scots main oval, Riverview continued their march towards the premiership. Having disposed of Kings last week, they continued their impressive form with a confident away win over Scots. They host Shore next week before a final round clash for the premiership with Joeys. Very exciting stuff.
Joeys 7 d Kings 6
What a close contest this turned out to be on JS White in torrential rain. Joeys were not at their best in the poor conditions, but they were still able to grind out a narrow win to remain undefeated. Kings fought well here, but are now out of the premiership race, despite opening the season with three straight wins. Joeys travel to High next week while Kings host TAS in the battle for 3rd place.
TAS 25 d Grammar 3
This match was played in falling snow, so no surprise that the locals had the upper hand in the conditions. TAS claimed their third win of the season and Grammar remain without a win from five matches. A great shame this was not televised, as it would have been a great spectacle! TAS travel to Kings next week while Grammar host Scots.
Shore 42 d High 0
Shore had no trouble notching their second win for the season over High at Northbridge by a decent margin in the wet. They are well and truly out of the premiership race, and they meet the undefeated Riverview side next round at Lane Cove. It doesn’t get any easier for High next round when they host Joeys, but they will play their final round against Grammar where one of those teams will likely record their first win of the season and avoid the wooden spoon.
