Are there PONIs(players of national interest) again this year?
Love my Ponis

Here for the advice

Hopefully very late in the year ! It’s proven to be a reputation pick for some that has not warranted the interest. Let’s hope it’s reflective of the season played and the upcoming clashes and state team selections as how close are the ARU or RA to this level at this stage.

I would just like to say, I was impressed with the line outs from Shore on the weekend. Although they don’t have The Galtitude, they have really improved compared to the last few games. This is surprising considering they have more forwards out than ever, but the boys had a high completion rate and folded into malls well.

yep, killed it last year.

if rugby au had the hopes of winning a World Cup they would pick him in 18s again. We let players like skelton play for France clubs then the wallabies we should be letting this young lad aswell.

if we see him in a French jersey I might just start supporting them. Imagine in 10 years time the back row of Fonua, Heinz and justice.
imagine that won’t be the back row in 10 years time

I hope they let them play out the rep season. Players were from the PONI system missed selection last year in the Aus 18s. While this is good because it means form is dictating selections it also leaves a few ego bruises on middle aged men who love a new embroided spray jacket and chinos every season.

I like the system myself. Rugby has limited resources in Aus so centralising it and focusing has to be done but it needs more refinement in regards to contracting and not just selecting players into a squad that essentially means nothing but a pat on the back. They're still free agents to sign anywhere they want. It should be a capture squad first and foremost.

Due to mobility issues I am unable to attend this week's rep games and report on the games.
Gone are the evening sitting in a wet, freezing Knox grandstand with blue fingers and dodgy BBQ.
Gone are the sunny days at Shore where the pies were as tasty as the rugby on display.

If you are attending, please make sure you can log in and update those..... a. who are at work/school and b. in bed recuperating.
I greatly appreciate the effort.

@Joker would you be opposed to the creation of another thread for these games (and maybe later incorporating the rep Aus School championships , etc) so our banned CAS and other cousins can participate? Might also save the potential flooding of the AAGPS thread by said cousins?…I would expect the same standard of acceptable behaviour and rules apply of course or it gets shut down immediately. And want to protect our thread from adverse attention.
Happy to start it if I can work out how…

The Chairman’s Match Preview:

The Test of the Champion: CAS vs AAGPS

When you think of famed rivalries the big ones come to mind.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona
India vs Pakistan
Los Angeles Lakers vs Celtics
Yankees vs Red Sox
perhaps even Joeys vs View

Well there is none bigger than the AAGPS taking on those reds.

Put simply, it is a whole new level.

The crowd impact is minimal. No one there cheering their heart out for you. Just pure talent.

The stars all align to impress the selectors. Making your schools First XV is one thing. Making a representative team is another.

But now I say to you, parliament is in session. There shall be order.

The Seat Count:

AAGPS: 17
CAS: 14

1750854824789.png

"The Question is that the motion moved by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Orr) be agreed to".

"That the House has no further confidence in the AAGPS' ability to provide a working seat majority"

The opposition benches smirk. Quietly confident.

The frontbench loaded. Included but not limited to:

The Shadow Minister for Explosive Carries (Mr Kotarac)
The Shadow Minister for Lineouts (Mr Smith)
The Shadow Minister for Meters (Mr Talaileva)
The Shadow Minister for Distribution (Mr Dene)
The Shadow Minister for Flair (Mr Tarau)

The opposition have not been to the government benches since 2018. I am sure this election they are eager to prove they can govern.

They appear prepared. The Coalition of Trinity, Waverley, Barker and Knox seem unified, driven by one goal.

Win back Government.

But how?

This is no normal division. The score is the vote.

But they are not just going to waltz into office.

1750855285666.png

Put into Hansard: "The Prime Minister and Cabinet have entered Parliament".

Following a result too tight for comfort last year, there was a leadership spill of all Parliamentary positions within the AAGPS.

Prime Minister Le Maitre retired to pursue a bigger career, and executives Craig and Wallace held onto their positions.

Elected, a fresh set of new characters, ready to inject energy into the new look Cabinet.

They include

Prime Minister Grover
The Minister for Explosive Carries (Mr Fonua)
The Minister for Lineouts (Mr Muir)
The Minister for Meters (Mr Taumopeau)
The Minister for Distribution (Mr King)
The Minister for Flair (Mr Anitela-Tsoussis)
and their secret weapon, The Minister for Conversions (Mr Grantham)

The backbenches murmur with questions. Should the Kingsmen should have been promoted to cabinet? or left out in the outer ministry?

No doubt the opposition will have serious questions to put to the Government.

But for now, Parliament is prorouged.

Who wins the majority?

The public will be bought over by a new-look, fast paced AAGPS side. With speed and flair, and a flexible forward line, the popular support shall be just too much for the CAS men who will put up a fight for the ages.

Some seat battles that will be critical (I understand this message is long enough I will keep it short)

The Division of Scrummaging
A new candidate for the AAGPS (D. Osborne) takes on K. Daly (CAS) who lost this seat last time. If this flips red, expect at least a minority on the way.

The Division of The Breakdown
A critical battle will rage between the AAGPS candidate Mr. H. Dempsey and the ever-talented Opposition Leader J. Orr. If the opposition leader loses his seat, say goodnight nurse.

The Division of The Backfield
A relatively unknown newcomer Mr. B. Prideaux (CAS) faces up against the points machine and Minister for Conversions C. Grantham (AAGPS). Front-foot ball is both sides MO, so if either can gain good field position through the primary vote, the majority is in sight.

You be the judge. Cast your votes.

As the Chairman of the House, if this results in a tie,
I Shall Side with the AAGPS.

I do not believe this well be neccesary however, as the electorate shall say:
AAGPS by 12 seats.

Such a shame that with the popularity of Schoolboy Rugby that no-one has taken up the TV rights after thinking their competitor would bid millions more.

I've been told that after the US$2.8bn NCAA House Settlement in US College Football, that AAGPS Rugby is next.
Joeys 1st XV players have been promised millions by class action law firms for prior use of their name, image and likeness, though I've been told by some they'll settle for some free drinks at the Joeys bar.
