NSW AAGPS 2025

Herbert Moran (7)
The AAGPS tipping comp is up again.

I am once more happy to do this job. I have time on my hands as I am now medically retired.
In the past this has been a lot of fun and each year we see winners come from many backgrounds.
Last year it was a schoolboy who won (won't reveal the school)

Question?

Would like to participate this season.
Entries close on WEDNESDAY before round 1.
Just reply with an indication of wanting to join.

There are limited places again this.
In 2025 I will be deleting tippers who miss three rounds in a row.
When this happens I will invite those who missed out to join and they will start with the points of the deleted tipper.

A reminder on how this works...

TIPPING comp entries close WEDNESDAY 14 May @5pm .
Pencil me in please Joker.

For those new here I hope this explains how the tipping works

With only three games each week I created a system where players can score more points not on just who wins

This is achieved by using margins.
Various margins are worth points.

Points break down.
Lose- 0
Win- 3 points if your margin is BELOW +5 of the final score
Win- 5 points if your margin is ABOVE and WITHIN the +5
Win- 10 points you pick the margin exactly

DRAW- If you select a draw 20 points

Here is this in action.

Game is Scots College v Sydney Boys High

Final result
Scots 10 High 32
Winning margin +22 to High

The following chose the following. Here is how they scored

Camembert - Picked Scots +25 0 points

Guppy- Picked High +10 3 points (win but below the margin)

Muppet- Picked High +26 5 points (win and within +5 of the margin)

Fluke- Picked High +22 10 points (win with the exact margin)

These margins come in handy as you can run down leaders or make a break. Plus is you fail to get your tips in you are given by default the away teams with no margin.

Tips are taken by PUBLISHING them here with a post. I will endeavor to have them added by 3:15pm on Saturday.

NO TIPS are accepted after this time.

You may wish to message me as well.

TIPPING comp entries close if limit is reached or FRIDAY 16 May @5pm .

Score predictions for Barker vs Shore tonight at Allianz.

Will be a very memorable game for both schools.

Shore looked very resilient against Knox, trailing on the scoreboard the whole game, and yet still looked with a considerable chance of pulling of a win, as even with the scoreboard not in their favour, Shore's effort did not lapse at all during the 70 minutes (which was probably aided by the numerous substitutions in the 2nd half), whereas Knox looked a bit slower and less hungry in the 2nd half, which Shore took advantage of, taking the momentum for most of the 2nd half. Although, Knox scored on the buzzer to extend their lead, which the Score 38-26 did not reflect how close the game was. I was very impressed and my expectations were exceeded by the Shore side in last week's trial fixture.

Although, with star players, who were the best backs of last years premiership winning team, both not playing against Barker, Rex Bassingthwaite the 10 injured till around July and Jai Callaghan the 15 not permitted by his bulldogs contract to train or play until the GPS season starts, Shore's backline will be lacking flair and X-factor (being able to create something out of nothing), which those two are exceptional at. Nevertheless, with the likely NRL careers ahead of those two means they won't be missing out on much as they'll more than likely be playing at Allianz fairly regularly in a couple years time (as Bassingthwaite's home ground with the Roosters is Allianz, and Callaghan with Bulldogs).

I don't have much knowledge on Barker this year, but considering they went to Sanix, which other 2024 top school in NSW St Augustine's did last year, I assume Barker will be strong this year, which is reinforced by the word going round on here that there are many returning 2024 players for Barker.

I think Barker will be very strong in the forwards and the backs at breaking the line, and a lot of their points will come that way, a line break, to a couple phases, then scoring. And I think Shore will do what they did last week, phase play after phase play making gradual meters towards the try line, and sporadically a couple of short line breaks and runs out wide.

All in all, I think Barker will be victorious, and I believe will have a consistent size advantage across the board over Shore, like how Knox did, as their seems to be many units in the Barker side, whereas Shore's side is smaller across the board, but that does not mean they can't throw their weight around or look to be at a disadvantage or mismatch in any way.

Expecting a large crowd from both schools, although even 2000 students (as Barker has) will still look small in a 45000 seat stadium. A real opportunity for these schools to show the wider rugby Union community what they're about, showing real passion for rugby union, which rugby Australia has lost tremendously in the past 5 years.

I think this fixture has eventuated due to how Shore and Barker both won their respective competitions last year, and no cross-competition final was played, like many had hoped.

Score prediction: 29-17 to Barker (although, I would be delighted to be proven wrong).
