thoughts on the chances of riverview in both 1sts and thirds?

They seem to have the skill to beat most teams in the 1sts, but have had biggish losses to New and Scots in the 1st round, which suggests that they can't quite match the physical size of those teams. Scots also look to be in peak form, so I'd expect a Scots win there.

Grammar quite good in the 3rds, but both mid-field. Shapes up as being a close tussle.

has been alot of talk about the strength of his grammer team, is it through the development of some key players, or simply the fact they are versing the third teams?

Strapping for any boys before games with niggles is important. There are some great Protein and Recovery Powders out which are fantastic, they do help, Stretching is the No. 1 Thing before any games and a Nice Cool Down Recovery after the games with a light jog and some gentle stretches. You can't go wrong

I think some schools have employed specialist conditioning coaches who warm them up and warm them down

I suspect a bit of both. There's definitely been positive signs at Grammar in terms of coaching and development, but I reckon Grammar have some players who could play in the 1sts comp but nowhere near enough at the moment. In the short term, they'll probably end up being too strong for the 3rds and not quite strong enough for 1sts. Long term, most hope they can return to the 1st XV competition.

Just wanted to say, as I think the boys playing in this years 1st XV comp deserve a massive pat on the back, that the quality of the games this year has been outstanding. Ifor one know where I can get a quality game of expansive exciting rugby and am a huge fan of the style and quali of play from all teams.mcomgrts to all of the coaches and the boys, if only the ARU could tap into this, people would fall in love with rugby all over again. It beats the hell out of watching the wallabies, a lot less hair gel and ego too! Bravo all involved

One has to be careful when talking about stretching as nowadays there is much conjecture on its value, especially pre-game
Joeys vs Riverview was supposedly match of the round but little discussion on this game!

Here we go, Rubbish, Don't Agree at all. From someone who is Qualified in this area. Stretching is very Important especially in a Contact Sport and a sport played in the Colder Months. Very Important the Ligaments and Muscles are warmed and after the warm up, stretching before a workout allows the body to become more pliable and less prone to injury. The muscles that should be stretched will be the main muscles groups that are going to be worked on during the session. prevent muscle strains: a strong pre-stretched muscle resists stress better than a strong unstretched muscle.

There are many players backing up from last years first xv who are quite capable in their own right to play 1st grade level and are now dominating their opposite numbers in 3rd grade. They are also benefiting from last years strong 16s age group now playing in the 1s

Sam mete, much to the disbelief of many has been dropped for Sean-unknown-Drenan. Conor Menzies has been given the chop & the Mike kennedy fill in, Rorke, has been replaced Riverview golden boy Alex barker. what a beautiful story; from the dust and dirt of the North territory to the rich & righteous lower north shore. lets hope he stays composed keeps his head screwed on, unlike his usual demeanour after a big night out at the Scotts water-hole that is the Royal Oakes in double bay. should be an absolute rip-snorter of a game, so get down and enjoy the spectacle

would love to find out where you get your resources from 'trench foot' as Sean-unknown-Drenan played an outstanding game. Both in defence and particularly attack he was simply unstoppable and featured in a lot of Riverview's scoring. Although you may have gotten this information wrong the story of Alex Barker was a beautiful one, and him along with Sean-highlight reel-Drenan and Josh Mackaness all played tremendously well as debutants. Maybe a bit of change was all the View boys needed to really click into gear as this was the first time i feel they filled the massive potential they have

How many played 1sts last year?
How many are back next year?

You have answered the reason for my caution
Stretching warm muscles may be fine but many coaches get their player to stretch first thing while still cold.

Joeys 13G 103 Scots 0
Joeys 16F 62 Scots 0
Joeys 16B 24 Scots 0
Joeys 16E 43 Scots 0
Joeys 13B 24 Scots 15
Joeys 13F 49 Scots 20
Joeys 14A 22 Scots 5
Joeys 14B 29 Scots 5

While the results do not show the huge heart these scotts boys showed, I was disappointed in the attitude towards these teams shown by the scotts parents who told me, "as long as the 1st's win we don't worry about these teams". This attitude is not found at Joeys.
stop the crap you're now making things up ....noone needs this self serving bs from anyone any school on this website

Weekend rugby viewing, confirmed to me (ex front rower) that fly half is critical position. Joeys really missed deegan, and while i feel for o'shea as it is always hard to step up, and shore's Clancy wasnt a real test

O'shea he will be better for the experience. I notice a number 19 replaced him ... Who was that?

Similar thing happened in the bledisloe, ie it was the difference in 10s that mattered. The so called powerball, aka cruden made To'omua's debut, one to forget ... Starting early with the charge down ...

All of which leads to my main interest, ie scots v new in round 9?

at the start of season they were slotting in joey lussick at 10, and i know there has been criticism of his passing, and gather new has been playing around with their 10, so think this will be the area to watch

Whoever dominates the halves will win, and newington has a good warm up in joeys, assuming deegan is back

I also think joeys need to reassess their picking such light forwards ... If they want to compete in the new cheque book era

Then again maybe I am just biased to old school porky forwards, and think boarding schools don't bang on enough food :)

Also had an interesting chat to a bloke out at the bledisloe re matt craft ... Always nice to see mates looking out for mates sons

I have same attitudes towards my mates sons, doesn't matter what school, always good to see them do well

So some of this inter school rivalry bit silly in my humble opinion

Anyway apparently crafts dad was a pretty handy new zealand provincial player, and bit unlucky not to make the all blacks .... So good to see us pinching kiwi talent
