It would be great to see a broader schools competition in years to come. Perhaps if AIC was to move to Term 3 as well, then something in Sept holidays as a culmination of the season could work?

Padua and Marist volleyball are a strinking force, Padua won 2016, took down Nudgee and Terrace easily, Marist winning 2017

for rowing, as AIC currently don't participate it would be hard to argue they would be poor at it

Hearing more from the boys as we speak.

Halatoa Puafisi (TGS) has ruptured his ACL and is out indefinitely as he waits for surgery.

Tristan Stanghorn (ACGS) has a broken scapula that ruled him out of the QLD Trials but he'll be right for the GPS Season and as a late call-up to Aus if need be.

Mitch Wood (NC) has just come out the other side of knee tendonitis, so missed the QLD Trials.

Jordan Petaia (BSHS) is just coming back from surgery, so missed the QLD Trials and is due back next week.

Jared Chambers (BSHS) has "done his ACL and a bit more" - out for the season.

Koen Dovey (TSS) was ill for the trials and decided to rest for the GPS season

Tom Van Der Schyff (TSS) has nearly recovered from a foot injury and is due back soon

How many of these boys were in Qld 1 & 2 last year King?

• I know Jordan Petaia(Combined State centre/winger) & Tristan Stanghorn(Qld 1 centre) both made Aust Barbarians last yr but had different paths getting there.

This is an amusing discussion topic(GPS,AIC yada yada) debate on many G&GR schoolboys rugby forums especially NSW & QLD.
The 'flippant and justification' rant RR, reflects many frustrated rugby followers/lovers with the lack of real attention given to this matter.
Some (may have already been suggested) thoughts to ponder.

1. Big Picture stuff .Is it really in our National interest(rugby union that is ) to have a joint competition like NZ schools??
2. Can we bring in an RTO to conduct a due diligence c if its viable for all stakeholders to have such an intrusive co-curricular(needs to run over 2 terms at least ). ANy benefits for schools? ($$ or prestige/marketing).
3. Politics aside, does it improve the bottom-line? What is our bottom-linear?
4. These noises"birthbangs" is a good thing right? Something is rumbling and usually will rise to the top sooner... so "more noises" made then?? if we want to see such a comp before we go to rugby heaven??

Anyway my input is to highlight the need for such discussions to be ongoing and perhaps lizzylovers may venture into the many(literally lots) of discussions done on the subject..good luck and dont forget to bringbackadbif

Terrific idea with the inclusion of the Sydney Schools that have won their respective competitions somehow as well. That would be fantastic.

With the high performance in the AIC of Marist and Padua in the past few years, its pretty evident that they should be invited to the GPS comp.

Gee they must have improved a lot because in 2015 BBC & BSHS both put over 50 on MCA -and that was in May (with MCA ready to start AIC comp and BBC/BSHS playing their first trial match)

Good luck to all GPS trialists. I just hope selectors do a better job than last year. QLD1 & QLD2 were terrible in the Nationals. Very disappointed!

You cannot compare GPS and AIC. If Padua and Marist had 20-30 ring-ins then they would be able to compete on a level playing field. As it stands they don't do scholarships so they will never be at the same level. If you had a comp over terms 2 & 3 and AIC teams were active in at least filling gaps with scholarships then you would have a great comp.

The current MCA 1XV would not finsh last in this GPS comp this year. In addition the depth at the school has it on top in almost every division and year group (with at least 6 teams in each year group from year 5 to open). In some instances the difference between MCA and the 2nd place getter is 30 plus points or more. That depth will only increase when AIC align with GPS, sports wise in a couple of years.
Almost every GPS 1sts team has imports which is par of the course for the comp. MCA would not win a GPS 1st XV comp but it most likely wouldnt finish last each year. In not focussing only on the firsts with such homegrown depth would compete well in all other age groups.
If MCA was in GPS the dynamic would also change as there may also be the non loss of some talent from the school to the higher exposure stronger GPS comp, whilst the school may also attract other talent who only wishes GPS exposure. Fair to say that things work ok as they currently are. Such will be a positive in a couple of years as the lower grade MCA teams can play the lower grade GT, NC teams once again.
Standouts from AIC to watch when playing GPS rep teams are 1 & 7 MCA, 8 St Pats , 9 & 11 (who is a fullback) SLC.

Conrad Green (BBC) has rehabbing post-surgery but will be extremely lucky to take the field this year.

To add to this injury list, Wolfgang Wallace recovering from surgery on his ankle, still out for at least another two weeks, Travis Manning recovering from a broken leg, and Davida Stowers with a knee injury.

Through the mid 80's to the early 90's in the old TAS.... ...MCA and SLC teams would have been right there against the GPS competition

SLC's dominance throughout this time directly connected to Souths Club strength in the late 80's through to the mid 90's, which , was bolstered by Horan, Johnstone and Morgan (Downlands) Little ( TGS ) and Smith
( Clairvaux ) - but Coached for a time in this period by SLC's First XV Coach through the 70's and the 80's

Also consider Wallaby teams through the late 90's with Crowley ( SLC ) Eales ( MCA ) Connors ( SLC ) Giffin (Redeemer) Dan Herbert ( MCA ) and with Anthony Herbert ( a few years earlier ) and Cannon ( SLC ) and Dyson ( John Paul College ) a few years later

Whilst it is irritating that some delusional twats in their best "Black Knight" routine post shit about being at the same level as GPS , to be fair , AIC has some genuine individual talent . The issue is that the depth is just not there which leads to an overall poorer standard and spectacle.

However .......1, 7 and 8 are legit and will be amongst names in consideration for QLD 1 and 2

At the U16 level Padua and Pats have / had some of the best individual talent going around

There is a lot of chat about the Villa and Iona U14 that probably has Churchie and Terrace licking their chops

You cannnot have a School of Origin from grade 8 (or even grade 10) because we (TSS) and Nudgee will not have enough original boys left over for an A team!!!

You could enter a team in an U15 School of Origin Comp and not have to give anyone back , Jack !

And we see how that's worked for that team / age group over the last few years
