BBC defeated BSH 31-13.
BBC has a speedy backline. Looking forward to watching the backs really unleash. Will be hard to contain if the forwards spread the ball.

TGS defeated IGS 18-10 in a closely fought game up on the range. TGS sealed the game late with an intercept try.

It might be an interesting fact that TSS again failed to win a game all day against Nudgee but I think the more interesting fact is some of the scores in the A teams where TSS were rarely scoring a point and Nudgee were rarely below 50 and some A Teams were knocking up just below 70 points to nil. This might be the first season in history when every team at Nudgee wins every game every weekend. I’m hoping Churchie or BBC can notch at least a couple of games against Nudgee as otherwise the sport will really start to die here, particularly after the Wallabies debacle later on in the evening.

A lot of schools really struggling for player numbers now. More kids playing basketball now than rugby at a number of schools. Wallabies being awful for decades now gives the kids nobody to aspire to, and no encouragement to play the game.
I also get the impression that one of the issues is that kids just want to play with their friends. One simple thing could be for the GPS association to go to year level teams rather then aged based like AIC does. For kids not in the A’s they just want to play with their mates and have fun, and the current system does not allow that. Nearly every other GPS sport does.
Nudgee have clearly taken their program to another level, and their depth is scary. But hopefully schools like BBC, Churchie, Terrace can win a few games against them this year.

BBC firsts were pretty good on the weekend, one of the youngest sides in memory, and not overly big, but a good start to the season.

or we could have the club system as the premier pathway in the country.... plenty of great kids playing in the BJRU comps who for whatever reason dont have the funds to go to a GPS school, or the kid isnt "the next superstar" and cant get a scholarship when he is probably a far superior player and not going to league when school finishes. imagine the club competition being the that strong that everyone wants to play for their local club over their school.....

would rather a School Season and a Club Season each winter.

Players could play and hang out with 2 different groups which will expand their exposure to different ways and means.

I suggest a Term 2 School program (8-10 games) and then Term 3 could be a club program (say 10-12 games finals)

This could be set up for Under 13,14,15,16 and 18 age groups. The u18 obviously become the next season Colts for each club.

Great concept - would really like to see that in place

GPS schools won't change their rugby season to term 2 as it would clash with their other sports. Rugby is just one of many sports they have to consider amongst their extra curricular activities. Additionally they don't see it as their job to promote rugby. They are there to win titles for their school, to build their profile and attract more enrolments.

The junior pathway via club is getting better. Clubs from U13 to U16 are improving in quality each year. The junior colts series has been a great concept and there are a number of open age school boys playing senior colts from both public and private schools. Club also provides more games over a longer season than school, which runs for a single term. Club also provides the only pathway for girls.

The thing is we need to get all the parts of the rugby machine working in unison.

Some or all parts need to make some compromise for the greater good. The one thing the RA board has clout with is the endorsement that the elite schools want to maintain due to heritage.
