Queensland Reds 2024

Not to mention a great opportunity to integrate the new players into the Reds systems.

I've been thinking about some of the chatter around why so many ex-Rebels players seem to desire the Reds more than the Waratahs.

Imagine the discussion. So in your new digs, what's happening in the off-season? Dunno. No coach. Wait and see. What about you? Well first we play Wales, then we tour Japan.

Haven’t the Tahs locked in McKellar?

But yes I think Kiss is doing well with his mantra of making rugby a life experience again and not just a game.

Was lucky enough to catch up with a couple of former wallaby captains over the weekend to watch the test match. The amount of positive comments about Kiss was nearly overwhelming.

Plus Tonga.

Also, Schmidt is clearly a big fan of what Kiss is doing.

Looks like Wilson is enjoying himself
Wilson gave praise to his club coach Les Kiss for reinvigorating him and teammates this year after succeeding Brad Thorn at the Reds.
“This year with Les, it was a nice change for all the Reds boys and it brought the enjoyment factor back to footy.
“It was a very free-flowing brand of footy we played at Reds – be yourself on and off the field is something which Les really brought.

“I thought it’s probably brought the best out of me and a lot of the Reds boys, which is probably why there’s a fair few of us here. Playing at Reds this year, playing a good brand of footy and winning a lot more games than previous years probably helped out.”

Interesting to read the comments from JS on Wilson:

“I think with Harry, he’s a good athlete,” Schmidt said. “For a big man, he’s a good athlete.

“So we want to see the athleticism. He’s got a good skill-set. I think probably just the consistency of that skill set.

“He’s got to demonstrate that every time and staying in the game.

“Because of the way some teams play, he plays on the edge quite a bit and I think sometimes he can drift a little bit and then he’s not in the game.

“With a guy like Harry, I think he’s got to stay in the game. Even if he’s not immediately around the ball, he’s got to stay connected to what’s happening so he’s ready when the ball does become available. And if he is, he’s a weapon.”

Looks like the Reds have benefited well from so called ‘Centralisation’, with some good Rebel players being signed. Early favourites for best Aussie Super side in 2025. No pressure. Tahs get a few and Force so far none. Centralisation. Ha.

But the Reds haven't signed up to RA's model yet? They support aspects of it, but they're unwilling to give RA the full reins.

I would daresay the Reds have benefited from having a good coaching team with a HC that is able to sell his vision to potential players and now have world class facilities.

this is unfair to take a crack at centralization because so far it’s essentially a player option about which team they’d like to play next season to fulfil their commitments to RA contract.

a lot of sooking and moaning by force, brumbies and tahs fans meanwhile there’s a bunch of rebels players off contract that remain unsigned and would be a huge upgrade in some spots.

I get the good coaching and selling a vision etc but aren’t we trying to have 4 strong teams not stack one or two and leave the others to flounder? Players obviously want to play at a strong team to win regularly and enhance their rep chances. That’s where the Force always struggles. They get players going over there for a couple of years but then they tend to leave. The Tahs should be strong always but their coaching and player retention and talent management is completely woeful last few years . Basically since Cheika left.

RE: RE: FW: FW: FW:
It's almost as though jumping to conclusions about who's getting a fair shake after only a handful of signings have been announced is misguided!

It's hard to gauge where the Force 2.0 now sit. In the last 4 years they have had to essentially start again after RA screwed them around.

There's probably a myriad of reasons on why players come and go there, many of which we can easily assume (i.e. travel fatigue etc).

With Twiggy at the helm, you can only hope they will start to right the ship a bit more and you would imagine if the idea of a free market between Aus/NZ does get off the ground, the Force will be the biggest beneficiaries.

Although, with Twiggy's hydrogen plans going tits up along with his divorce, maybe he'll tighten the strings.
