Queensland Reds 2026

Yeah, I mostly prefer those guys play for their club sides in season, and a lot of them will be off with the under 20s throughout the year.

That said, there is a bit of a window early in the season before club rugby starts up for academy matches amongst the super sides. It's been a bit ad hoc recently, but hopefully it gets formalized into more of a consistent competition.
This is more what I meant, at the start of the year.
you look at French academies and how much rugby they play. Then by the time they’re ready to be called up, they’ve played a heap in the system.

Hmm a reds academy vs tahs academy would be alright as pre season thing. Most of the names mentioned will be pushing for a preseason game in the main team though.

Nick Tucker reporting that Aus U18 players; Finn Mackay and Treyvon Pritchard set to start for Reds against Panasonic Wildknights in Toowoomba this weekend, with another U18s player William Ross off the bench.

When was the last time a schoolboy played for the Reds?

Petaia was just out of school I think.

You'd love to see Mackay and Pritchard flyhalf and inside centre, for that cohesion benefit but probably more sensible to play 10 and 15 where we need players.

All fun and games until Koroibete runs an unders line right into McKays mush.

I have no idea what Wildknights team is showing up.
Yeah, that's an initiation alright! He's played a few games of HC though (I get that Marika is a different kettle of fish). He'll be alright as long as he has Henry or Dre next to him rather than Pritchard.

Yeh - look I am a Tom Lynagh fan. I think he's a good player and worthy of Wallabies selection.

But there is no denying for a bloke his age, he's already got a lot of injury grief across a few different areas which make me doubt his longevity.

The concussion stuff is partially bad luck, but at 22yr old to have recurring dodgy hamstrings it's pretty alarming.
It's slowly becoming Pucovski-esque

Deans and Kiss (and the teams) have a pretty good relationship. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a nod and wink in this first game that it will be a bit more of a trial run with the stronger teams being played in the 2nd game
