Yeah I've been saying this for a while. Pucovski was getting "concussed" running between wickets. I'm not convinced it wasn't just anxiety.
Im not sure the running between wickets thing is true. The guy got hit in the head a lot. He did have well documented mental health challenges though.

Although Joe Schmidt alluded to Lynagh potentially over playing his hamstring issues last year, it's probably unfair to outright assume that it's an anxiety issue - especially considering his issues with it this year. I agree you can't outright rule it out either though.

Horrible to speculate on a guys health who is vocal about his challenges but I would guess one lead to the other then a vicious cycle began. Nothing can be more anxiety inducing then worry about permanent health. Does that then change how you approach things which in a professional environment exposes you to errors which can result in repeated injury....

Some people seem allergic to head knocks if that makes sense. The slightest knock or whip effect can do them but other people seem are able to take direct blows to the head with no negative consequence (at the time). There will be a day when you can identify people who a likely to be concussed at a lower force and they will be recommended away from the sports.

Veering away from the topic but I think people are getting a bit over their skis on Tom and we watch him like a hawk because he seems like a sitting duck. Can only imagine what oppositions see then... He doesn't seem to be getting innocuous concussions but hit in a style that would put anyone out. Still not good, but not in the Boyd Cordner type that chewing gum put him down.

He has been hit in the helmet a number of times. I remember him getting concussed from a heading a soccer ball in a warmup. Some of the concussions upon review, weren't actually concussions. They were symptoms of anxiety. I'm not saying he shouldn't have retired, mainly because everyone knew he couldn't play the short ball, but he was definitely in his own head with it.

He had 13 confirmed concussions according to Dr Google. He probably should have retired (and been forced to retire) long before he did.

We're starting to get some idea on concussions, but we really have no idea on the long term impact of lots of sub-concussive impacts other than what we see cutting a brain open after death. That's the concerning thing for me re Lynagh - he's had lots of concussions, but he's also had lots of head knocks that weren't diagnosed concussions

Sorry to bring this back but he did get several really bad concussions playing AFL before his cricket ones. I think a combo of a) he's got the glass jaw and b) struggles with anxiety which has similar symptoms. I hope he's recovering well. He's the only high profile cricketer that I know that's retired due to head knocks.

The latest mail I read before he retired was some of those 13 concussions turned out to not be concussions upon review. But how many is too many right? I'm with you, we are still learning about concussion. I would suggest that anyone that's played rugby or league or afl would have had head knocks that weren't diagnosed as concussion. What gives me hope is that Tom would be getting the best help compared to previous eras. Heck his Dad probably received as many hits as him and they probably did next to nothing in those days.

Is there any concern with concussions affecting Josh Flolok? I know he has suffered quite a few injuries over the past few years but not sure how many, if any, might have been related to concussion. He did come off in the Perth Bledisloe with concussion after what looked to me to be a "by the book" tackle where his head looked to be well positioned and out of harms way. Is there any history?

By good position you mean his head hit the guy's hip flush?
I don't think he's been concussed any other time this year. Had a hamstring injury that required surgery and in previous years it's been his shoulder. I think he's fine head wise.

it's a super exciting team. But clearly a development one. Will be interesting how big a squad Saitama have brought out and how development it is for them.

greetings all, I’m new to this forum and was just wanting to know anyone’s thoughts on the lineup tomorrow in Toowoomba? Especially about picking such young co-captains. Thoughts on this??

They're the two with the most experience at the pro level in the starting team, so it makes sense.
