he also has no incentive to bring up the matter on behalf of the players, he wont be there and does not need support as captain

Thats probably true,
But I've heard all the time about James having the good of rugby in his mind - the Reds and all of that, I would have thought that he is still a leader, hasplenty of mates in the team, is a true believer in the Reds and may have put his hand up- he has nothing to lose, does he?

I was pretty sure slipper replaced horwill on the board when he took over the captaincy, could be wrong though.

Perform on the field?

They have no structure at all and have shown little improvement after the bye. There is more to this than just the players. I have never seen so many 10s especially QC (Quade Cooper) play so far behind the adv line for the life of me. No improvement on that since Rd 1.

have a go at the board for not holding the coach accountable by all means. But commend them for not kowtowing to the players. There is a process for player feedback to the board.

I think any player or playing group that bypassed the coach and complained to a Board of any franchise is just stupid.

If the Board supports the Coach then the player/s are fucked

This is a Board decision. They have a Players rep attached to the Board.

From all reports there is no player power push at the Reds. An issue was raised by players, through which channels I don't know, and it was shut down by the board.

In my view it never works when the players feel they have too much power. They need to understand the role they play in the situation.

Not player power, but a few stories are landing in Sydney from usually reliable sources that the Changing Shed is deeply divided and discontent over the KHunt issue.

Ohh yeah. Like whom?

Because currently this is pure unadulterated gossip.

Yes there is. No one said on here that it wasn't done correctly or that players asked for anyones' sacking.

A btw re recent 'officially recorded' Reds' crowd numbers at Suncorp.

Quite a few of us here who've attended Reds matches at Suncorp for many years, and thus have seen and recalled all manner of crowd sizes, have intuitively questioned the fact that the 2015 reported crowd numbers seem way higher than we or our friends at recent games perceived them to be.

Well, it would appear that even mainline rugby journos generally friendly to the QRU are of the same view.

Yesterday, in a The Australian article re the Force's travails in Sth Africa Wayne Smith was commenting on the diminutive size of a Force player and felt his 'officially' stated weight was, well, very over-stated in truth. His actual words are as follows, and there's not many journos who know Suncorp crowds better than Smith:

.....but it may be that the person who checked the scales is the same person who counts spectators at Queensland Reds matches at Suncorp Stadium.

Whatever the theoretical principles governing issues such as 'player power' and the like, the fact remains: any QRU board even vaguely worth its salt would, as at March 2015, be way, way more concerned re retaining (and re-motivating) the central core of Reds' players like Slipper, QC (Quade Cooper), Gill, Simmons, etc than retaining or 'supporting the authority of' a proven third-rater like RG.

What's been too little commented on recently is the building impact of two dreadful Reds' seasons of more or less continuous losses, and now declining crowd numbers and bad media coverage etc, upon the motivation and pride levels of important Reds' players that could readily gain employment, and even better incomes, in EU or Japan. Or gain attractive offers from other, better coached Aus S15 teams.

There will surely come a point - if it's not come already - where large numbers of Reds' players will want out of this enduring nightmare especially if they conclude it's interminable. If the QRU board has any smarts left, it'll find a way to listen very carefully to its best players' views re current coaching and related matters.

There is no more degrading and demotivating element for a well-performing, loyal employee than a perception that 'this place is fucked right now, but nobody cares and no one's going to fix it. Looking after our bosses' egos has become more important than looking after the business.'

If the QRU should lose a bevy of its most important players, the path to a successful re-build will be very, very long.

Hehe. Maybe they're counting legs at Suncorp. ;)

As per Wayne Smith's comments, it's well known that a lot of the officially stated weights and heights are exaggerated.

Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if Luke Burton was 90 kg. The bloke he's standing next to here (2nd from left, Robbie Abel) is meant to be 108 kg - now that could be BS.

But 90 kg is not a big number and Burton is not exactly thin.

Well, we all know contracts are worth shit,

If a player isn't happy, he will ask for a transfer. The Franchise is then in a difficult position.
If a release is not granted he will get the shits further and feign injury and wait out the remaining part of the contract whilst still getting paid and taking up a spot in the wider team. Better off without that type of player anyway.

Nowdays there are plenty of overseas options available to those disgruntled players.

Ok here is a new one and a new low for our mate RG. He is very good at blaming anything on losing other than himself but this is just ridiculous.
Article by Jim Tucker.
.....Curiously, it was the first time a coach has been exasperated by ruck ball coming too quickly when normally it is like gold.
The Lions committed only one or two players to the tackle area and fanned out defenders to handle the Reds runners off the quick ball.
The speed of the ball was that quick it was difficult to get formed in attack at times,” Graham said.

Sorry is this bloke for real? What coach would or should ever complain about quick ball? To all the RG defenders out there please explain how you don't have a structure after pre-season and 7 rounds to allow for the use of quick ball in Rugby Union?

Truly weird, especially as its basically the red's tactics in defence at the moment

How many interviews does the chief executive need to do on the subject? The next time Jim Carmichael talks in the subject it should be to announce RG's resignation.. ...and to announce the reappointment of Phil Mooneyo_O
