I prefer Greene, but happy to see what happens in the trials.

For mine the strategy and thinking around 10 remains inchoate. Many of us however, will be looking not for talent in the "cattle" but for evidence of coaching cohesion and logic.

Despite that churning feeling in the pit of my stomach I sincerely wish them all the best and all my support in this endeavour.

Perhaps Mason will jump everyone with some good showings.. Didn't think he was a standout in the storm u20s but definitely has talent.

From the Reds site and fan email http://www.redsrugby.com.au/News/Ne...-fill-in-2016-to-square-off-at-Ballymore.aspx

"McIntyre has also worked hard over the past six months to develop a booming in-play kicking game, which will help the Reds in terms of field position and territory play. Considering the strength of the Reds’ set-piece, the pairing of McIntyre’s boot with the prowess of the forward pack’s line-out and scrum could prove fruitful for the Queensland side in 2016."

Are we entering a season of 10 man rugby? Not incompatible with ball-in-hand rugby I suppose but context and priority will be fundamental.

We're not playing 10 man rugby with Jake McIntyre. He's a direct flyhalf with a shonky kicking technique.

I wouldn't let the QRU media department's analysis of his 'booming' kicking technique sway anyone's opinion too greatly. Believe it when you see it.

The Brisbane City combination with Frisby should go smoothly for McIntyre but I think Greene could be a game-breaker.

I think the only thing holding Greene back is his decision making. In Premier Rugby last year it felt like Greene would often dummy when he should have passed, expecting to break contact and go through the line. It didn't always go that way. I imagine that's the biggest black mark on his profile, as he's no better nor worse than McIntyre at defending.

Just my two cents.

Big news set to be released re Liam Gill. Hearing reports he will leave the Reds after the 2016 season to head overseas.

It's fairly well known Gill can't stand RG and I'm led to believe he was given assurances Graham would be gone.

Sucks for the Reds but I can understand Gill's point of view. His skillset would earn him a nice cheque in France or England, he's probably third or fourth in line at best to the Wallaby 7, given that we have the two best in the world at the position playing there and he can come back at any time and have another crack at the Wallabies.

Heard similar.

RG continues to drive talent away. He's slowly building a team of inexperienced players who know no better than he does. Bring on round 6 when his day of reckoning comes.

Given that it's a trial and there's a whole second XV on the bench, perhaps Saia is just there to captain the side in the second half?

I think Saia is there to captain the Second XV but maybe also to protect Taniela Tupou with his first game against some quality opposition.

Saia is a very good scrummaging hooker and maybe the plan was to give Ready a shot against more notable hookers to become more Super Rugby ready as well as not throwing Tongan Thor into the deep end to early.

I've mentioned a few times the impact Goromaru's signing has had on the Reds off the field, and we've seen that with the "Goromaru Membership". Now there's this!

Queensland Rugby Union today announced Japanese gas appliances company Rinnai has signed on as a St.George Queensland Reds partner for the 2016 season.

An international company with offices in 20 countries, Rinnai has operated in Australia for more than 40 years, providing specialist hot water systems, heating and air conditioning solutions.

The company’s logo will feature on the collar of the Reds Super Rugby jersey.

Rinnai Australia Managing Director, Greg Ellis, said: "Rinnai Australia is excited to be a major partner of the Queensland Reds in 2016 as Super Rugby continues its expansion not only locally but also internationally.

“As a Japanese company, we are happy to be supporting the Reds team who will be welcoming Japanese Rugby sensation Ayumu Goromaru in the upcoming season."

Queensland Rugby Union CEO Jim Carmichael said: “We’re thrilled to announce QRU have secured another international blue chip organisation.

“This partnership is a testament to the reach of Rugby in Queensland and the opportunities that exist for our corporate partners, not only with our Super Rugby team, but with the game at the grassroots level.

“This partnership also demonstrates the fantastic opportunities presented by the international nature of Super Rugby.”

I read somewhere that Japan are now the second largest demographic of social media fans for the Reds

Am sure RG was a big factor together with the likelihood that Liam is out of Wallaby contention for a number of years. Am sad to see him go (if that does happen). Bloke is a real champion.

There may be some legs in a possible Pocock coming back to Ballymore - 7 spot will be wide open in 2017 if Liam goes OS. He hasn't re-signed, hasn't got the captaincy ????????????????

Just start the rumour anyway, Pocock to Ballymore

Keep Gill and get Pocock to Ballymore at Number 8 since that seems to be his Wallabies role now - we haven't exactly been scaring the opposition with our number 8 options lately have we?

So the Reds marketing team have two desires this weekend.
1. McIntyre prooves good with his booming kick
2. Hunt and Greene make an absolute meal of FB

Happy with Michael Gunn to get the 7 jersey next year. A quality player (as is Brad Wilkin down south and Conor Moroney coming through the system)

Wouldn't be surprised if Gill goes to the UK actually. His skill-set would be particularly valuable in a marketplace where Southern Hemisphere open-sides are the new black.
