RWC - Wallabies v Ireland - 17th September 2011

Touch footy in Auckland

A group of us expat Micks who are based in Sydney will be in Auckland this weekend for the game against youse Wallabies. Would there be any interest in a game of touch on Saturday at lunchtime? If nothing else it'll keep us off the grog for a couple of hours.

Apologies if this has already been raised on another thread.

C'mon, relax. Have a beer and enjoy. Yes, Ireland's form is poor but more importantly they are low in confidence both as a team and with in key decision makers at 9 and 10. Ireland will not rediscover their form and confidence against a Wallaby side playing at new heights in form, confidence and resilience.

No! I will not indulge in beer OR good times no matter how much you try to coax me! This is a serious game in a serious tournament, and I am taking it very seriously!

Any GAGR members in Brisbane. If you want to catch up for a beer, head to Irish Murphy's across from the Casino. Corner of Elizabeth and George streets. Should be there from 1pm onwards on Saturday. Me and chequebalance will probably be the only Australian's in the place.

Granted. England have a history of beating the Wallabies through forward dominance at scrum and breakdown. They applied a blow torch to one area of the Wallabies that was fragile. There is not one aspect of this Irish team's game that can be considered dominant Also consider this; Ireland's winning record from home is abysmal and they have never won a game in the RWC against higher ranked opposition in the pro era. They have never won their group in the RWC.

Good post before about the Ireland team. It's the expected team except the halves selection was in doubt.


So the question of who will start at 10 v. Oz, which has been going on for the best part of a year, in answered. I would have chosen the bloody minded ROG who is a big match player (well, most of the time) ahead of Sexton, but the die is cast.

D'Arcy is lucky to keep his place and his only valid replacement, McFadden isn't even in the 22.

Ireland fans will be hoping the Leinster connection works - and BOD should be counted there too - but it hasn't been too scary for a while. Watching the trials it's hard to believe that Gaffney was orchestrating that, though the forwards have a lot to answer for.

Unless Oz have one of their recurrent retreats into mediocrity Ireland will have to play above their recent form to win. But if Ireland play how they did against England in 6N they will be a match for Oz, even in top form.

Yeah, I got that but I decided to get someone to do the training on my behalf. So I followed the lead of Oz manufacturing and outsourced it to Asia.

Some southern Chinese guy now has abs of steel and arm cannons the size of Tasmania.....meanwhile, I remain flabby.

Meh. Pass me the fucking donuts.
